Food is very good like four cheese tortellini taste well but generic grocery store taste. Fried macaroni = would not reccomend it is literally fried into pieces that look like chicken nuggets and crisp takes away from flavor which is not worth it. Pizza was tasting very yum. Overall well experience but a bit too pricey and very full, and a lil noisy.

I would say this is between Meh, I've experienced better and A-OK. I am not a big fan of their pizza, I prefer real food instead of a chain restaurant that has every last item delivered all at once, in the middle of the night on ginormous truck that delivers every possible frozen item. The portions are really big. My co worker gets this salad that she loves, but we looked up the calorie count and the pizza I got has less calories than her salad! I guess mall food is just not for me, no matter how you slice it.

Everytime I'm in Hillsdale and walk by CPK, I can't help but notice all the people waiting for a table and I always think "Is it really any good?" Last time I went, I wasn't all that great. Up until last night, I haven't eaten there in years. No wait for us since it was close to 9P on a Thursday night. To think, CPK was one of my favorite spots in college (I went to UCD so we'd go to CPK in Arden Fair Mall every so often), but for some reason this particular location never did it for me. I usually order the margharita pizza (well, I "USED to"), but I ordered the chicken marsala instead. I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't that bad either. Service was good, although we had to ask for water refills a few times. For some reason, I remember this restaurant feeling really cold, and it was the same last night. I had to borrow my db's jacket to keep warm since the front doors of the restaurant was left open. When we were being seated I was hoping the hostess didn't sit us at a window, which she didnt. Phew! Next time I'll brave the cold and cross the street and eat at Outback, but this place is OK. You won't see me running back to it anytime soon nor will you see me waiting half an hour for a table either.

Thank you CPK and Cecilia! Just want to say that my hat goes off to CPK for their involvement in sponsoring a youth baseball team this year! It made my nephew so happy, which made the rest of my family happy! I just wanted to thank Cecilia for all her help. If it wasn't for her, it would have been just an ordinary experience. She gave it that little extra! Extra- ordinary!

We used to be regulars here but the changes made in the past year leave much to be desired. The menu has cut down A LOT and some of my favorite pizzas are no longer available. The only reason why we still eat here from time to time is because our kids love it. The children's menu and prices can't be beat.

My favorite place to get a salad! I am still looking for a place that makes a better or as good salad. I have yet to have a bad meal here. If you get something you don't like they replace it without a hassle because of their "Menu Adventure Guarantee" or whatever they call it. Great wine list for a chain too. Another perk is the curbside pick up so I can get it to go without having to bare the cold nights or the mall.

I have been called a pizza snob before and well yeah I am. This place not so good in my opinion. I am starting to think its just not my luck with pizza in this state. CPK has all these exotic choices of pizza that you would expect from California. I like the variety but at least get the basics right. The crust is very dry and the top was sort of greasy. You can do the ringer test or the napkin test to see what I mean. Napkin test: basically blot the pizza with a napkin (brown napkin works best) and look at the amount of oil soaked into the napkin. Should be sort of sparse, no large blobs. Ringer Test(little more abstract): Roll the pizza, narrow end to wider end, as tight as you can, over a napkin or plate (like you are ringing it out). Whatever falls into the plate you judge. Usually a little grease and bits of crumbs. If nothing falls into the plate you did it wrong or performed the test with a rubber pizza. So this CPK had a few blobs on the napkin test and chunks of crumbs and little puddles on the ringer test. Not as bad as pizzahut, so that means its edible.

Ordered the steak tacos...so I'm expecting two soft tacos. Not...got one big fat taco stuff with cabbage and steak. They used two small soft shell to make one big wide one. You couldn't lift it off the plate because the taco would split in half and fall apart. Favor was ok...favor doesn't explode in your mouth. The taco came with chips and salsa...you get that free at Chevys. For $11.00, I expected more....much more!!!!!! No price value or presentation. Stick with the pizza.

The waits have gotten shorter since Cheesecake factory moved into town. Today, we only had to wait 10 minutes. The food is consistently decent and it is a very kid friendly place - huge variety of items to choose from on the kids menu and all the options are a big hit with the kids - they love the pepperoni pizza and the mac and cheese. We usually run into people we know, but not tonight I love the adventure guarantee which lets you try something new, but if you don't love it, they will give you your usual. My go-to is the grilled vegetable sandwich, which is dee-lish. i save the other half of the sandwich for lunch at work the next day. Other folks got tuscan hummus, lettuce wraps, linguini clams and the roasted garlic pizza. There were no complaints!

I liked the service. We had a server in training as well as the regular server. Food was ok. I wish they would bring back some of the soups and salads I had years ago. Food is getting pricey though.

We were in Santa Cruz for the day and ran into this small whole in the wall with yummy looking cupcakes, so we decided to check it out. I had a delicious orange marmalade cupcake. It was moist and rich, but not overpowering. They just opened up so they need help passing the word around. Check them out.

After a week of hard work from last week and finally get to be on vacation for one week... And so I have decided that I wanted to go shopping and hang out at the Hillsdale Shopping Mall in which I have not been to in a while... After I got tired of waliking the whole mall of Hillsdale before leaving I have decided that I wanted order a Hawaiian Pizza from the California Pizza Kitchen as a to go order... Not only did I order a pineapple pizza as a to go order, I also ordered a appetizer which was the Tuscan Hummus which also came with the Pizza Pita Bread they also gave me some extra Sour Dough Bread to try with the Tuscan Hummus... When I got home and tried all this items for the first time from The California Pizza Kitchen, I have to say that CPK wasnt that bad at all eventhough it was thin crust... All I can say that it was a good thin crust pizza!!!

I met up with some friends down here today for a quick lunch. I have a one hour lunch break and was expecting to be able to get in and out quickly to make it back to the office in time to get back to work. There was a good lunchtime crowd but the wait staff seemed overwhelmed and very inattentive. Two of us ordered salads which I would imagine is not a very difficult dish to make and the other person ordered a caesar sandwich. The time it took to get our food was unacceptably long, almost 30 minutes. It took 15 minutes for the drink order to arrive at the table. I ordered a Pepsi and the refill arrived as we were leaving. The only saving grace is that the food was pretty good. I hat the Thai Crunch Salad which is my favorite and it was good. Everything else was lackluster....

I love California Pizza Kitchen. I have never had horrible experiences at any of their locations. I decided to write about this specific location since I used to patron this restaurant all the time. If you know me, you know that I always order the same thing from each restaurant. I guess you can say that I don't like to venture out and explore other options. Hence, I ordered the Chipotle Chicken pizza and the Thai Crunch salad. I always split this with another person since the food portions are quite large. The ingredients are always fresh and the food is very tasty. The pizza is served as a thin crust style and I love how crunchy it is. YUM! My complaints? Well, complaints are like buttholes, everyone has one . . . or two. I wish their service was better. Usually it takes quite some time to get our refills on the drinks and on rare occasions, it does take awhile to receive our food. I remember one time I waited over 45 minutes. On top of that, their turnovers on tables are quite slow, but I think it's due to their lack of service to get people in and out. If the waiters and waitresses worked a little harder and faster, I feel that the people waiting to be seated wouldn't have to wait over 45 minutes.

The secret to getting a table and excellent service at CPK is to go early! We came here for lunch at 11:00 AM and we got a table in the front room immediately. My garlic chicken pizza came out hot and delicious as always. The kid's pizza was also a decent size. Service was pretty good. The best thing about this CPK over the ones at the City is that there's free parking! No running out to feed the meter ala Civic Center's CPK!

First off, this is a mall restaurant. You can never expect perfection from a mall restaurant, because they simply don't have to be. People are shopping, they will get hungry, they will eat here. The menu is very inventive, and there's something to suit every pallet. Because this is a part of a large corporation, you can expect a very consistent product. The carne asada pizza or chicken tequilla fettucini will be just as good every time you go. I find that a positive and a negative in the sense that yes, you will get what you wanted, but I find charm in a little variation. California Pizza Kitchen is expensive! This is the price you pay for the consistency in product and the name brand food. Overall, I find the service lacking, the food good, and the pricing over the top.

Yep, I'd have to agree with that, 3 stars at best. Service was good. We ordered thin crust pepperoni pizza and penne pesto pasta. The pepperoni pizza was okay, nothing spectacular. The pasta was also okay, nothng spectacular. I ordered a cherry limeaid, wasn't very good. Prices are a little high for the quality of food. Parking was easy. Haven't been here for years, probably wont be back for several more.

Yes, I'm reviewing a chain restaurant. Yes, it deserves 3 stars. Take it from me, this is as good as can be expected when eating at a mall (SF city center excluded). I spend 4 days a week in malls all over the west coast. I know my mall food. Here's what to order at CPK: For pizza you should always get the thin crust Sicilian. The best non pizza entre is the Chicken Milanese. It's lightly breaded chicken breasts covered in an arugula salad with bruchetta and parmeson flakes drizzles in olive oil. I order it once a month. Trust me.

This place used to be so busy but since Cheesecake Factory opened up in Hillsdale Mall, the wait had gotten so much better. The kids menu is great esp with healty substitutions. Their pizzas and salad are pretty good too and their servings are huge so opt for the half sizes. Service is a hit or miss.

It's weird to get great service in places we don't expect. This was one of those places. A gentlemen by the name of Perry helped us out. He gave us some suggestions and we're glad we took them. This is one of the best services we have gotten. You would expect service like this to come from a high end restaurant, Perry did an awesome job. PIzza was off the hook as well!!!!!!

My husband dared me. He said "When you order the sesame ginger chicken dumplings, you should ask for the ginger dumps." When the server came by I did the ordering. My husband gave me a look like don't do it, but I went ahead and ordered the "ginger dumps." The server didn't bat an eye. He just asked if we wanted them before or with our meal. In the future I really need to make deals for something in exchange. San Mateo and Walnut Creek are the best Bay Area outposts in the CPK chain. We live in San Jose but actually went here for lunch during our day in San Mateo instead of going somewhere non-chain just because my husband misses this location. (Unlike Valley Fair, the wait's not insane.) The prices at CPK keep creeping higher and higher so now it's $25+ for two of us to share a pizza, app, and a coke. Weren't ginger dumps like $5.50 instead of $8 like 5 years ago?

ZERO STARS Just about the worst ever. Stopped by for lunch after golf. First off the front door hostess was on the phone and didn't even look up to acknowledge us. Sat down and orders drinks. When we asked for a vodka the waiter looked at the wine list and said they didn't have any...WOW Ordered a vodka on the rocks with an olive and onion, drink showed up with a lime. Everything went downhill from here. After awhile the same clueless waiter came by and asked if we wanted anything.....what about the drink order? We then tried to order food. Wanted a club sandwich on wheat bread, he said the didn't have that kind of bread! WHAT! We then decided on a pizza. Ordered a large to share with green peppers, he said all they had were yellow and red peppers. When the pizza showed up it had green peppers. What's up with this place? Be advised if you go to this place you're in for a real BAD experience.

Okay, I like CPK. Their food is good. Service is a little sketch. Exhibit A: Midway through my salad, I made the fatal error of setting down my fork and my salad disappeared. Waiters are sneaky. Watch out for that business. Exhibit B: I ordered a Thai Chicken Salad (half, with avocado. Don't bother if you're not getting Avocado cause it makes the salad CRACK) to go, along with a pellegrino. I kid you not, this is the response I received from the server: "I don't believe we are allowed to give you alcoholic beverages to go." If the counter had been any closer to my face, you can bet that a *headdesk* would have been inserted. As it was, it took everything i had NOT to laugh at the poor soul and so I very kindly explained what it was. The response almost made me want to walk out in frustration. "Um...we don't sell sparkling water. Try Safeway." Honestly.

Went here yesterday with a friend since she wanted to eat here... One great thing about chain is consistency. How often do you hear phrases like "hey, i know this great Taco Bell"? It's because when you walk into any Taco Bell location, you know exactly what your food will taste like. Same applies to CPK... food is as expected just about everywhere, and this location is not an exception. Service was good as well... I put Victor to some extra work (more on this in a bit), but he was friendly and did his job well. Now, what happened to my mojito? I got one and it really *really* tasted like... water? Water with a bit of soda? Was it because there was no alcohol? I even asked Victor to add more alcohol, and he did... unfortunately, it tasted just the same? What's wrong with this drink???? A day later, I am still intrigued by this. If I ever visit this location, I sure know what not to get xD

I have a $50 gift card since 2006 so I figure I better use it soon even though it said there's no expiration date. Called my sis to see if she would like to join us. We got there early around 5:30pm to avoid the crowds because it's always busy and I just don't feel like waiting in line, not for CPK. We walked in and the place is half empty. The host asked if we had children in our party and we told him no. He brought us all the way to the back where it appears to be the "children" section - WTF? Enjoy having dinner with kids screaming, crying and whining? Welcome to CPK. To numb our senses, we ordered some draft beer (Stella, Widmer Hef and Sam Adams Lager - $4.75 each) and a sparkling kiwi lemonade ($7.50) - no, the lemonade was not for me or my sister but my brother-in-law! What we ordered: Original chopped salad ($11.99) - interesting, we were asked if we wanted garbanzo beans or not, yes please. We got the full order and it came within 5 minutes - it was ok. One each of the tortilla spring rolls ($10.49): mediterranean w/ sun dried tomato marinara - not bad baja chicken with fresh guacamole - ok thai chicken with thai peanut sauce - ok Wild mushroom pizza ($11.49) - not bad but sort of greasy, you can see the oil on top. Carne Asada pizza ($12.49) - meh, the pork was dry and flavorless. CPK seems to be a place for kids and teens.

So often, CPK is hard to get into; long wait, really noisy, but we come here after work before they get slammed, and we are always seated immediately, and served promptly. Their pizzas are gourmet, delicious, not mind-blowing, but in a whole different class than, say, Round Table. But we go for the salad! Totally addicted to the Moroccan Chicken Salad, and it's a great way to have a treat, without blowing your calorie count for the day. This location is easy to get to, lots of parking, courteous staff and consistently good food. You should go here.

I've only ever gotten take-out from here. We love their mushroom ravioli with the garlic cream sauce so every once in a while when we are in the mood, it is a perfectly convenient spot from the Hillsdale train station after a long day at work and a long commute to just head on over and get some of that yummy ravoili. Also, the 20 minute wait for your take-out to be ready goes by super fast since there are all these stores you can visit while you wait. It's prefect, except at about $15 a pasta, it's a bit expensive for a quick take out. But like I said, it's one of those once-in--while-you-are-just-in-the-mood-and-you-are-way-too-tired-to-cook things.

  • Michael M.

Well, 3 1/2 is more like it. Sometimes my roommate wants to go to Hillsdale when Serramonte gets boring. We usually like to eat here. While it's nothing special, it's not terrible either. We usually start with the Chicken Dumplings and they are pretty tasty. I like the Corn Soup, and get that when there's a chill in the air. Salads are just OK, but not that great. I usually get one of two things ... Kung Pao Spaghetti, or the Roasted Garlic Chicken Pizza. I think I prefer the spaghetti over the pizza. The roommate changes from time to time, but usually settles for a chicken dish. While better than the mall food you can get across the street, its OK pizza.

I don't think anyone goes to CPK for a life changing meal. Food is good and the selection large. However, I think it is over priced. Pizza's are not that big and most of the dishes calorie count is rather HUGE is you don't watch it. That being said, their chicken miso salad is great, their Original BBQ pizza is pretty good, but again too small to share, and their Thai Crunch Salad is yum!! The take out /meet you at your car thing is pretty great too. You can order on-line or over the phone and they bring it to your car at your scheduled time. Makes it way easier than trying to park at Hillsdale!!

Don't come at "lunch hour" if you want decent service or well-prepared food. This is still a good CPK if you avoid their busy times, but at lunch especially (dinner too some nights) they are swamped and food and service REALLY suffers. After waiting one night for over 1/2 hour for a "table" we were seated at a "almost booth" right next to the kitchen. God awful! But if you go before or after "regular" lunch or dinner times, the food is still very good, comes out hot, well prepared and service is VERY good. 4 stars (at least) every time!! I do agree with the one other post about the "kid" issue -- but that's everywhere now, isn't it? Try to enjoy your meal while listening to other people's screaming kids or better yet while other people let their kids run wild in the place! lovely. Back to CPK: This place is really ok. But avoid it like the plague at busy mealtimes.

The Fantastic 4 had an early dinner (5:30 pm) at California pizza kitchen. The restaurant was starting to open for dinner,so we were the first family for dinner and seated immediately. Matt had to pee and found the clean restroom had no urinal in the men's restroom. Next thing Matt knew, it was the women's. OOPS!! The Fantastic 4 are not pizza eaters (not many pizza reviews from Matt). We had the popular Barbecue pizza and an unusual pizza that we've never seen which was the Carne Asada Pizza. The unique Mexican Pizza tasted like a Steak burrito from a taqueria, but both our pizza tasted ok. We also ordered the Chicken Caesar salad. Miss Rugrat was under the weather, so she ordered the Chicken noodle soup, which was the special soup for that day. The meal was plenty for the Fantastic 4. Our waitress was nice and treated us with royalty. The service was good, considerring it was an early dinner. After dinner, wifey went to the powdered room and found out the toilet seat was up. Then she came out and say to Matt, "Somebody left the toilet seat up in the women's bathroom!" Matt replied, "Really, I wonder who did that?"

We tried this place for the first time this past Friday and we were not disappointed. The wait was approximately 20 minutes for a table for two and after being seated we ordered the Shrimp Scampi Pizza and the Pesto Penne. The pizza was just right with the perfect blend of garlic, mozzarella cheese and shrimp which I was expecting to be the dominant flavor on the za but it was not; no complaints here. The Pesto Penne was very flavorful and not watered down like a couple of places that we've dined at recently. Overall, a very fun and pleasant restaurant whose clientele at the time of our visit consisted primarily of families with small children.

Pizza wasn't good and our order took forever to get to our table. I would say $13 for a crappy pizza? NO THANKS! And don't get me started with the waitor...he didn't even bother to come over to check on us. My boyfriend had work so we asked for the check which took 20 minutes to get to our damn table.

I used to dislike this place very much, but it has grown on me within the past year. I find it okay now. The Original BBQ Chicken Chop Chop Salad is good, and some of their pizza is tolerable if I'm in the mood. Other than the food not being appetizing to me in the past, I didn't appreciate how this chain single-handedly tried to create and coin the term California style pizza. New York and Chicago style pizzas were invented as a result of the residents of those cities whom slowly defined the style over years and generations. New York style pizza and Chicago style pizza are generic terms. CPK, on the other hand, thinks that they can just use our state's name, and lay dibs to the style? I don't like it.

The food is alright but the smell in the restaurant just wasn't the freshest, it has this heavy grease smells in the air that came from the kitchen. I think the restaurant is in desperate needs for a serious refreshment.

I went to CPK many times and had their pizza. Sometimes it's good and sometimes... Not so good. How can you mess up on a pizza when you're a pizza restaurant? I went there recently and instead of the usual pizza, I had the Thai Salad, sauce on the side and grilled Mahi Mahi and replaced the pasta with steam veggies. The Mahi Mahi was ok. Not the greatness and I bit dried. But the Thai salad was really good. For a pizza place, I will only go there for salad. The service was ok since we seat at the counter.

I admit it, I actually like the Pizza Kitchen, as it's something I grew up with in SoCal. Their pizzas are actually only ok, unless you like some of the very CA style offerings. I do like the potato, rosemary, chicken every once in a while but now prefer the Neopolatin style thin pizzas. This place however seems to have a ridiculous wait and is chock full of kids. The way to go is sit at the bar and you'll get some half decent service. The mall definitely brings out some interesting people watching, as does their full bore open kitchen (these guys krank em out). Not the best pizza around but sometimes it's interesting enough if you're in the mood for something different.

Date of meal: 11/25/07 Server: JOSEPH My boyfriend and I decided to eat here since we live nearby and have had fine experiences at other CPK's. We ordered a large salad to split and a pizza to share as well. The menu describes the salad and says served with vinegrette or blue cheese. I told the waiter that we wanted it with the blue cheese dressing, and then repeated myself to make sure he was listening. I also asked for no celery- ick. He brought out the salad and put it between us- no plates. We asked for some plates and he pointed to the itty bitty bread plates. We asked for something bigger. By the time Joseph finally wandered back with the plates we had a chance to look at the salad and realize it was drenched with vinagrette. We politely showed him so he took it away to fix. Pizza was brought out a minute later. Usually we take our salad before the main course.. but whatever, we'll survive. Salad was brought out with blue cheese dressing, and celery. By this time I was so frustrated with the non-shalant (no idea how to spell that) waiter that I didn't even want to bother giving the salad another chance so I picked out all the celery pieces witghout saying anything. The salad was edible... tasted like the prepackaged refridgerated ones you get at the grocery store. Lots of wilted lettuce. When the salad was dropped off we asked for some cheese and chile flakes for the pizza. We waited to eat our pizza... waited... and waited... and finally, he never brought it, and we had cold pizza. Finally we waved down a different waiter and he gladly and pleasantly brought some, right away. Sigh of relief. By then, pizza sucked. All the while I could see our server wandering the restaurant at a slow stroll of a pace. He would chat with his friend the bartender and punctually enter his tips into the computer, while neglecting the few tables he had- maybe 3 or 4 tables. Ahh joseph, where you high maybe? Dropped on your head? I feel sorry for the bussers and runners with whom he shares his tips. They probably don't make much. Not a single refill, even on water.

Do you want a nice, fat, greasy, cheesy, slice of pizza to go with a cold pitcher of beer? Yeah? Then go to North Beach Pizza, because CPK isn't going to hit the spot! CPK is a family oriented, "gourmet style" pizza restaurant, something along the lines of TGI Fridays. It's a nice G rated place to bring the kids. Tip: Order the specialty pizzas, not the kind that you would normally get at Blondies or Costco. Trust me. My boyfriend ordered "The Works" and it tasted like frozen pizza; the dough was sweet, the toppings weren't bubbling hot, and there wasn't an ounce of grease to soak up with a paper towel. I, on the other hand, ordered the "Wild Mushroom" and loved every single bite. Then again, I'm not too picky when it comes to pizza, I love Lean Cuisine's frozen pizza's and CPK's kind of taste the same... Like someone once said, "Pizza is a lot like sex. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good." So there you have it.

It was 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon and there was a 15 minute wait. Seriously? We have to wait 15 minutes at 2 p.m. to eat lunch? Unbelievable. We had a gift card and the kids really, really wanted to eat here so we waited. Usually, it is my general rule not to wait to give my money to anyone. Just my thing. We get seated by an overly enthusiastic server named Carollyn. She is uber friendly and was pretty quick at taking our drink orders and food order but took a little long getting us bread. I was starving so I really noticed that it took a long ass time. It didn't really make any sense either. It wasn't like it was freshly baked or even served warm but whatever. Our food arrives shortly after the bread. My daughter and I split the Pepperoni, Mushroom, Sausage Pizza, the hubby got the Habinero Carnitas Pizza and my son got the fetuccine alfredo from the kid's menu. Everything was spot on what we expected from CPK. On a side note, I went to the restroom and there was shit on the toliet seat. Never a good thing to see. They really should check up on the cleanliness of their restrooms. Minus 1 star for that.

i absolutely abhor and disdain mall food court food so i'm relieved when there is an option that isn't totally offensive to my palette. definitely a 3 star joint. you can find me at CPK when i'm feeling indecisive about where i wanna eat. besides, CPK is always consistent. if you're not in the mood for pizza, the thai crunch salad is one UNboring salad and the chicken lettuce wraps are also very good.

I really love all their salads but I use them to cater a lot and they are ALWAYS late when I come to pick it up so I have to lie and tell them earlier than I need it to get it on time. My all time favorite thing to order for myself is the BBQ chicken chopped salad. I also like the Waldorf salad, BBQ chicken pizza, Thai Chicken Pizza, Chicken Fetticini Alfredo and Kung Pao Spaghetti. Ask for plenty of bread and butter. It's delicious!

It has been years since I dined here and have enjoyed the tortilla spring rolls, garlic cream feticini with chicken, and other dishes; fast forward to yesterday and aside from the prices going up, nothing has changed. Our server, Anthony, was wonderful, leaving nothing to chance and checking back frequently, but not too much so. the jerk chicken pizza is wonderful; a thin crust with tender spiced chicken in jerk spices, a spicy Caribbean bbq sauce, onions, and peppers. The bread is fresh and my niece loved her chicken nugits and my mother and brother's girlfriend shared the tequila chicken feticini and loved it. For dessert, we shared the caramel pudding with caramel, sea salt, and a light chocolate cake; very light yet sinful. I loved the Crisp Apple Cider as it was not sweet but not much of a beer flavor either. I love the casual yet trendy atmosphere with both traditional and creative dishes. So, for wonderful pizza and other fare at a reasonable prices in a casual trendy atmosphere, California Pizza Kitchen cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.

So I took a co-worker here for lunch. I ordered a Girlled veggie sandiwch with a chicken breast and a side of soup. Order came, the chicken came on the side and sliced up. I am a big boy, so I can put chicken into my sandwich no problem. I do so and take one bite. Crunch .... hmmmm .... this is sandy and tastes like a rock. I spit it back out. Waiter comes over and ask if he can get me something else. I say a Chicken Caesar sandwich. I wait. The sandwich comes. Bite. Taste of dijon. I flag him down, and show him the sandwich, and ask if he is sure this is a chicken caesar. He said thats what he ordered and looks at the ticket. LOOK AT MY SANDWICH!!!!!! NOT THE TICKET!!!! At this point, I ask him again if it is Caesar and he says yes. I eat it. I think I am taking crazy pills. The sandwich taste like dijon. I see mustard seeds from Grey Poupon. I am pretty sure its a chicken dijon. At this point, I have given up all hope and just finish my sandwich. Thanks for the pychological scarring CPK!

CPK used to have the best eggplant sandwich in the world, and by the world I mean the greater San Mateo area. They took it off the menu around 2000. I don't think anything else there is worth going there for especially since most of the waitstaff are slow in the head . I've always been bitter and now I can tell the world! Bring back the eggplant sandwich and I shall return.

I've been coming to CPK for a few years now and the food has been consistent...nothing to complain about or to compliment. The only issue that has been consistent is the rude and unwelcming attitude of the hosts placing guests on the wait list. No hello or apologies for the wait. Umm..if you're asking HUNGRY people to wait 15-30 minutes to have a meal at your establishment, it's best show some form of understanding. One time, the host even had the nerve to lie and say that he called my name when I he didn't b/c I was waiting directly across from the door! I'm sure I would've heard my name 4.5 feet away. This is an area that is in need of MAJOR improvement. Hopefully they get it right soon.

Incredibly average restaurant. The fact that it's in the mall makes me cringe but the only other CPK I've seen was back home...next to the mall, so whatever. There is always a wait here, especially at lunchtime and they don't take reservations which drives me absolutely bonkers. Why don't restaurants take reservations, why?! How does this get them more business? Someone please explain to me. The pizza crust has an almost sweet taste to it, the first slice or two is ok, but then it becomes really overwhelming. If I'm hungry and I'm at the mall, I'll go here (the food court at Hillsdale is pretty shabby, I find it bizarre that you have to essentially cross the street to get to it) but I won't really make a special trip.

  • Erin M.

There's nothing to hate and there's nothing to really like. It's better than mall food. I always like to be a bit adventurous so I try to order a different pizza everytime I go. I know most people like the BBQ Chicken, but that's probably my least favorite. The Chipotle chicken is very good with a touch of spicy. I can always count on the hot sauce situated on every table to add more kick to my pizzas. The Thai Crunch salad is probably the most interesting salad on the menu and the lunch portions are just big enough. I cant image what the regular portion looks like.

Dont eat here too often but when I do, its great! Every time I come here I have to have a cup of the tortilla soup! Pretty good service here too. I've been to several locations and this has got to be one of my favorites!

This place is so yummy. I got the BBQ chicken salad - should have got a half - it was huge and delicious. Fresh veggies and chicken with a great tasting dressing. My friend got a Chipolte chicken pizza - that was excellent. The service was prompt, friendly and the staff knowledgeable. We also got the asian dumpling appetizers and they were something I'd order over and over. Meal came quick, reasonable price and overall a great experience. I am going back to try more selections from the fast menu.

Meh! For what I'm paying, I'd rather have Sbarro's on the other side of the mall. Overrated.. Overpriced. Oh-fer chrissakes they need some plants in here!

About what you'd expect from a chain restaurant in a mall. Often a long wait, decent food, average service. I mean, this isn't fine dining, folks. The hosts and servers are really hit or miss. Our favorite server always chats with us and makes sure to get our order right, whereas a few others don't seem to care. For a place overcrowded with families and groups, I'd say the restaurant does a good job. We eat here about once every week or two, and we usually go for the salads and sandwiches. The tricolore salad is pretty good (salad on top of a pizza crust). The pizza itself doesn't seem to be anything special. For what it's worth, we've never gotten food poisoning from eating here, even though we eat here very frequently.

Okay, so normally I have always loved CPK. Their pizzas are yummy, with great variety. Good atmosphere, and always good service. But I have got to tell you, please do not go to the one in Hillsdale Mall. I ate there yesterday and had the worst food poisoning ever. I ordered adobe chicken chowder and a salad. I thought it tasted okay, but no more than a half hour after I finished eating I was sick as a dog. I literally felt as if someone had punched me in the stomach. And I know it was their food because I hadn't eaten anything else that day besides coffee. Worst of all when I went down to tell them, not to be rude but just give them a helpful warning, they were SO RUDE TO ME. Just accept the criticism and fix your product, that's all I'm asking! Geez!

I love California Pizza kitchen.... When I head to Hillsdale to do a little shopping I always opt for some CPK's. The wait is never too long and I''ve always recieved great service. I've tried several different pizza's and salad's and havenever been dissappointed. My favorite pizza is the barbecue chicken pizza they are very conistent with the flavor and it always hits the spot. it's also a good size and I have leftovers for my lunch the next day.... My kids are also a big fan of their pasta and mac and cheese.. Like I always do... After a day of shopping in Hillsdale I hit this place up for my late lunch early dinner

I am frankly surprised by the average reviews here. While not a big fan of CPK, this location is excellent, both in food quality and service. The only complaint is the frequent long waits. If you are going on a Friday or weekends, be prepared to wait for a loooong time. I would recommed taking the bar seats as they seem to go unoccupied even during rush hour. Having written a positive review for one particular location of a chain, I should warn that this quality/service is unfortunately not replicated in other CPK locations.

WHAT HAPPENED? This place used to be "better" I don't think they care- Our pizza was burnt & they sat us (a couple) in a room with tons of kids we could not hear ourselves think. The front area we saw as we left was mostly adults- I have nothing against kids but shouldn't the hostess be sensitive to the seating?? they were not busy except the back room of yelling kids. Anyway the food sucked. This is probably the 10th time we have had a crappy dinner there. The servers honestly could care less- I thought the manager cared but they walked right by our table to cater to the families which is their bread & better- they will not miss us-this is too sad as I like other CPK's that care about their food & service---- Go across the street to Outback or even the food court is better. Plus they are way too pricey for what you get

Our server must have been having an off day or else she's just totally lame. She just could NOT get our orders right... and mostly just C's orders... It took about 3 tries just to get a Roy Rogers, which is just a Coke with Grenadine syrup in it... 1st try C somehow was given a rum and Coke. The server was so confused by C sending back the drink, C changed her order to a regular, plain ol' Coke. And what she received was a Diet Coke. The drink was eventually left at the table as a 'refill' for S, and then FINALLY, C got her drink - a Coke. Whew! And then there was the food order... We all got a salad of some variety but it didn't come to us without some sort of issue or other. For instance, C ordered her miso shrimp salad WITHOUT cilantro... It came WITH cilantro. When she asked for another one , instead of the server whisking it away, the server went back to the kitchen to talk to the *chef* and came back to tell us that the *chef* did not put any cilantro in the salad... Hmmm... Since we could all SEE the cilantro, C practically had to *make* the server take it back for a new one. To CPK's credit, the new and cilantro-less salad came pretty quickly. I ordered my salad with salad dressing on the side. My salad arrived without the salad dressing (fine) but I had to ask for salad dressing (she definitely forgot it). Erg! So even though the service was off, the food was fine. Not great, but not bad... it's CPK after all. We did all agree that the lettuce wraps were tasty. Oh! And I do hate it when apps precede your entree by ONLY 2 minutes. Please! Give your customers some time to eat apps before the main meal! Plus, there just wasn't any room on the table...

Tonight my family and I decided to hit up CPK for the second time together. My first experience was great, I liked the fresh tomato and spinach spaghetti. Very light and not a heavy pasta dish. Our waiter was AMAZING! Too bad I forgot his "real" name, but his name tag was Brazilian because CPK thought he could pass as one, uhm... no. Anyways! Tonight was not such a great experience, that is why I gave this place two stars. Our waiter was nice, but it seemed like she didn't really care about us. I guess I am comparing her to our previous waiter. I had the broccoli and asparagus, liked it, but didn't loooove it. DO NOT TRY THE AVOCADO + TOMATO + CHICKEN EGG ROLL! The table beside us had it and it looked appetizing. First bite into it and a burst of oil spatted out. Disgusting, right? A very heavy appetizer. On the left side of the dish on the menu it said it was a CPK favorite, don't fall for it! It's just nasty, I felt like I was just eating oil!

THE ABSOLUTE WORST CPK ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET! 1st visit to hillsdale cpk, came in with a group of 6 people. not that busy, got seated, waited at least 5 minutes to get menus, another 5 minutes to get water, another 5 minutes for us to all get up and leave. 2nd visit to hillsdale cpk. came in with a group of 3. never got water, never got menus, got up and left after 5 minutes. 3rd visit to hillsdale cpk, came in with my girlfriend, fairly busy. ordered food. waitress asked if i wanted my soup before my entree, i answered YES. a few minutes pass, I see that my food is finally ready. while it sits and cools and becomes cold, my waitress is joking around with her coworkers, telling them how her day is, and what she wants to shop for next...i finally received my entree after staring at it on the couter for what seemed like forever...i also received my check along with my food (one of my biggest pet peeves). my mouth did not touch a single item of food before i got my check. still no sign of my soup. in the mean time, my waitress is talking to her coworker, laughing and giggling. i had to get a different waiter to get my soup..which i received AFTER my entree. granted, my waitress did not recieve a very big tip. 3 strikes.

Same friend suggested this restaurant again. It sucks because as a Mom, you get seated out in stroller land with every annoying child and stupid parent you can imagine. I was forced to discuss my infant and his stroller with every passer-by. Then I had a 20 minute conversation with a 4 year old girl at the table next to me while her mother sat there and stared off into space. BUTTTTT: The Mac n' Cheese on the kids menu is pretty effin' good. That will be my go to dish from now on. Love the kids menu... especially when I'm broke.

IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD My experience started by being seated rather quickly, but that's where the good ends. I asked for a high chair for my 2 year old and was told that I couldn't have one because of the location of the table but was offered a booster seat. I hate booster seats. I don't think they're safe, but after being out doing holiday shopping my son and I were both so thirsty that I took it and was carefully watching him. Our server comes over almost immediately and takes our drink order, I also order an appetizer and my son's food and was going to decide what I wanted in the mean time. FIFTEEN MINUTES later, no drinks, no food, nothing. Then someone else comes over and asks if we'd like something to drink. I tell them to go ask our server about it. Next thing I know, as I'm having this conversation my son takes a head dive into the floor. As any good mother would, I picked him up off the floor and got more tense than I've ever been in my whole life. I demanded to see a manager. Wildon came and offered to seat me at another table. I told him I should be getting a free meal for what we just went through. He said "ha, you're not getting a free meal". I started to get really angry at that point and said something about suing CPK. He then told me that he was going to have security remove me from the restaurant. I told him I was going to call the police if someone laid a finger on me because my son just fell and this is not how you should treat a customer. He didn't care about the situation at all. He just kept telling me that he had a business to run. OK, I know that running a CPK is a super important job, and I shouldn't be so focused on the child that I spent 17 hours of labor to give birth to, but my priorities were out of whack when I noticed that my son's face was starting to bruise. Wildon walked away and I asked for them to go get him and bring him back because my son's face was bruising and I wanted him to see it. I waited another 10 minutes and he never came. I called the general manager this morning and was told that it's my fault for allowing my son to sit in the booster. So it's my fault that I was mistreated. I deserved it. I called him a piece of shit and wished death upon him and I don't regret it at all. I'm in the process of talking to corporate and we'll see what they have to say. I don't think I'll be back to a CPK, this location or otherwise. I don't know that I'll buy their frozen pizzas anymore either. I guess I can give the one star to the girls working the take out register who got us some water since the whole reason we were there in the first place was because we were thirsty. I can't believe I lost a half hour of my day at this CPK.

The food is good. I like all the appetizers. The original bbq chicken chopped salad, and the thai chicken pizza are my favorites. Most the pizzas are good, and there's a ton to choose from, so something for everyone. However, the service is not so good. It always takes forever to get refills or ask a question. Most the servers I've had were pretty rude. Don't let me hostess sit you in the back room!!! It's where they seat large parties and families with lots of kids. It's always loud and crazy back there. Everything is a bit overpriced. They never offer any kind of deals or specials, and even though they mostly serve pizzas they don't offer a side salad. Since service sucks so much, I recommend getting a pizza to go and making a salad at home to go along with it.

Food: After we were done making teddy bears we came here for dinner. I was surprised we had to wait to get in here...anyways once seated I ordered the garlic noodles with chicken and my boyfriend ordered the bbq chicken pizza. Our food came out promptly after our sourdough bread, which was ok.The garlic noodles were flavorful and were exactly what I wanted! However I was disappointed with the very small amount of chicken. Seriously I paid an extra $2 almost for like a chicken nugget chopped into 8 pieces. My boyfriend was satisfied with his pizza also.We also had dessert, the chocolate cake with ice cream which cost alot cheaper than dinner and was also just okay. Price: Overall California Pizza Kitchen is way overpriced. The food is okay but Id rather go to a restaurant outside of a mall to pay $13 for a meal. Service: Service was friendly Location: Inside Hillsdale Mall Atmosphere: Not bad, can get loud in here

I didn't know it takes an hour to make pasta. I know we ordered appetizers but we sat there waiting around for our food for a good 40 min. Our waiter kept walking by our table and when we tired asking for anything, he would speed up and act like he didn't hear us. Totally expected better service.

$10 and up for 6 slices of pizza that aren't very good. It's not at Mr. Pizzaman's level, but it's not at Amici's level either. I guess it's sort of like oven bake pizza. It just doesn't seem worth it to pay $20 for subpar pizza and luke warm soup.

My boyfriend and I went to CPK for dinner tonight for the first time. We asked if there was a wait for two people and were told 15 - 20 minutes. So we sat at the bar, where there was no wait. Throughout the course of our dinner, there were open tables for two people... The food was good - I had the Waldorf Chicken Salad, which was loaded with walnuts, grapes and apples and my boyfriend had the Grilled Chicken Caesar Sandwich on cheese bread. Word of advice: DO NOT order the Raspberry Mojito. It tasted like red cough syrup and practically made me gag. Yuck!

This is the worst experience I have ever had at CPK. I went in for food to go on my break from work. Not only was it extremely packed and the ladies behind the counter didn't even realize I was there until I said "excuse me!" but it took more than 20 minutes just to get my food and my food wasn't hard to prepare! I ordered hummus and a cup of soup. it is not that difficult or should it take that long to give me my food when I know all you have to do is go into the soup bowl and scoop it out and pour some hummus in a to-go container. That should of only took 10 minutes max! I wasn't even able to pay for my food prior to it being ready. And one girl didn't know that I didn't even pay so I could of potentially walked out of there with free food. Thank goodness for them that I am not the type and made it clear that I didn't pay. I don't think I will ever go there again unless I've got all the time in the world to sit around and wait for them to "make" cold hummus and pour some soup. I am only giving them 2 stars because generally it never has been this bad.

God this place is awful. Overpriced, poor food, bad customer service. This place is run by bozos or something. They always have the back room turned into some sort of strange hangout parlor, and in the evenings they won't sit anyone in the booths that line the wall---even in the front room! I saw them try to seat a group of six at a small table for four last time we were there, and there were multiple large booths right next to this table which they would not seat the party at "that section is closed". Fortunately the party was smart enough to simply leave. I wish we had done the same but my companion was too hungry for this to have been an option at that time. There is really nothing good I can say about this place. Not recommended.

Yeah, too expensive for what you get or don't get. Had high hopes because I haven't been to one in say 10 years. Very busy place so sit at the bar to save time if you really want to eat here. I whispered to my wife, "How was the bathroom?" She said, "Yucky."

If you're at Hillsdale Mall and you HAVE to eat, go here. Its dependable, the pizza's aren't bad, some good appetizers too, and its cheap. We pick this place over the food court EVERY time, sorry I just CAN'T eat at Sbarro anymore, I think there's an age limit or something, its just nasty. CPK has some interesting toppings, some pretty good salads too and again, its CHEAP. My niece LOVES it here so we HAVE to take her when she visits, and we don't mind.

CPK is a great place to get take out on a busy work week. It's close to my house, you can order in advance and they also have the option for you to park across the street, and then have them bring you your food order. This is a great options that really came in handy the weekend I was painting my living room and found myself tired, covered in paint, and hungry, all at the same time. I was able to place the order in advance and then wait in the car. The food is also pretty good for a chain restaurant. The quality is very consistent. When I order the Tostada Pizza it always tastes exactly like I expect (which is a good thing). In the past I did have trouble with my order being slightly off but that seems to have improved recently. I suggest you check your order before you leave to make sure you received all the components of your dish. Another nice feature about the drive up options is that they take all your payment info over the phone and then email you the receipt. Also once they get your number they keep email info on file so every time I go I don't have to give the info again.

I happen to like CPK, but I definitely have to be in the mood for it. The wait time here is often very long, as it's one of the better places around the Hillsdale Mall. I used to work in the area in 1999, and the waits weren't so bad. When I lived nearby in 2005, wow did it get worse. I don't actively seek out this place, but it's good for visitors who've never had this style of pizza. My usual fare: 1/2 chopped salad, 1/2 a pizza, Arnold Palmer. About $15. Hey, it's CPK.

1 word, pepporoni supremo. and a chinese chicken salad. and a barbeque chicken salad ... and you are talking dinner... now, this is a chain... and I usually reserve the 4 stars for non-chains... but, they are consistantly delicious...

All the CPKs are pretty standard... long wait time. My friends and I were asked to come back in 50 minutes to check for table. We came back 35 minutes later, and the waitress said she called our names but we weren't around so she gave our table away. My friend had to yelp (bitching without using profanity or raising the voice) at her for a little while before we got seated. Food was good (and pricey).

Sorry... I like NY pizzas.... none of this fancy fruity "California" pizza. Been to this location a few times, wasn't impressed by the wait, the service, nor the pizzas. After looking at the menu and the toppings, it's not pizza anymore, it's toppings on a round flat bread with sauce. Subsequent visits called for ordering pasta. I don't eat CPK anymore.

As you can see from my other pizza reviews, I can be a bit of a pizza snob. But I really like this place. First, I like the fact that they offer different pizzas, as in toppings, than the normal round table or dominoes. Second, I really dig the honey wheat crust. And last, this is not only a pizza joint. They have some great salads and sandwiches as well. I think the location is good at Hillsdale as it gives shoppers another alternative than the food court and Outback.

My friend and I were at Hillsdale mall today with a few hours to hang out, have lunch, catch up, and maybe do some shopping. We were both really hungry and ready for lunch. Our food choices included Boudin, the food court, or California Pizza Kitchen. Since Boudin is a complete rip off and I always leave hungry, we decided to take a look at CPK's menu. I normally avoid pizza places because I can't have dairy. I usually avoid chain-like establishments because of the cardboard cutout food choices as well as the overly kid friendly atmosphere. However, upon checking out the menu, I saw that in addition to pizza, pasta, and salads, that they offered my most beloved of food choices - Jambalaya. I consider myself a jambalaya snob. If it's on the menu, I just have to try it. My experiences with different restaurants have revealed that not everyone can make a decent spicy, flavorful jambalaya that satisfies a lunchtime crave. This one did. The offering at CPK was packed with tender morsels of chicken, sausage, and shrimp nestled between a flat spaghetti-like pasta. The sauce was savory AND spicy, and generously seasoned with onions and garlic. The only warning I give is that the breath suffers as a result, so the next time I'm there, I'll make sure my husband orders the same thing. Our server was very attentive as well as cute, and the restaurant manager even came by to make sure we were doing alright, which we were. The bread and butter were decent, too, as well as plentiful. I did have a Thai chicken cheeseless pizza there a few years back on my first visit, and it wasn't half bad. I now have a new fave rave and will happily go back when my jambalaya craving beckons.

My secret to enjoying this place: take-out. Makes my BBQ chicken pizza (no onions) taste 10x better. Complimentary bread and butter when you pick up, too. If I'm feeling extra hungry, I'll get the half caesar salad with chicken. Park in the Sears lot, and you can be in and out in less than 10 minutes.

I always seem to be drawn to this place when my husband is away, and I don't want to cook for one. I usually get a half salad - either the Thai Chicken or Chinese Chicken. They're good, but kind of pricey for a half salad. Who would've thought a CPK salad would be my comfort food!

this isn't necessarily a go-to, but when it's suggested, i'll oblige. i love coming here and sharing the waldorf salad and one o their many pizzas...the sicilian and bbq chicken are always good. plus, the location allows you to stuff your face, then walk it off with a shopping expedition.

I've been here on numerous occasions. I think the only time i was ever WOWED by CPK was the first time I ate there. Ever since then, not so much. I tried the 2 soups in one bowl thingy today. The chicken cowder was good and the tortilla soup sucked. I asked for a side salad with vinagrette dressing and that i got. The dressing just disgusting. I've never had a bad vinagrette. The waiter was UBBER annoying. Every 2 minutes he'd be at our table asking how we were doing. The funny thing is, with all of his concern..it took him a good 5-10 minutes to bring us lemon for our diet pepsis. Odd. Anyways..if you have to eat here, go ahead. If not please please find somewhere else to go. I (yet again) let with a BLAH feeling. Also, why was a bowl of soup, a side salad and a soda (with tip) $17?????? Oh yeah, i ate at a mall restaurant.

i love their pizza... they WOWED me the first time.. The mango tandoori chicken was to die for! Their chinese chicken salad is sooo good... you have to get a full size becaause the smaller one is too small... overall, great GREAT food, but the wait is kinda long...but you can call before you leave your house to make a reservation..

I came here for the first time the other day--I ate pizza which was good. They have a good variety of pizzas to choose from. I definitely want to come back to try other ones. Good service and friendly staff.

This place is honestly one good food place. I really liked the veggie pizza and the very delicious sundae. The bad thing about this place is the service. The waiters and waitresses really don't seem to enjoy there job. The women who work there especially show very rude face gestures which makes costumers such as myself give bad remarks about the place as a whole. But Overall good place to eat with family, friends, or a date.

A majority of my friend's hate this place since it's pretty much you're buying a personal sized pizza in which you can get a large at Domino's for the same price, lol. I love the Thai chicken, and I tried my friends' thin crust one. I forgot what it's called but it's full of meat and that is delicous. Recommend this place if you got the cash for it, very nice atmosphere for a pizza parlor.

Just had lunch there and had such bad service, I needed to Yelp them immediately. I've always had no problems with their mediocre food but the service today was terrible. The place was half empty so theres no explanation. We were served our salad but no bread and we asked why? His response was "You must request for it' which I thought was BS for he forgot it. If you decide to go there make sure you ask for bread with your salad. It will be a couple months or years before I go back.

Saddest thing I ever saw: huge group of people waiting around in the Hillsdale mall for a table at CPK on a lovely Thursday evening. Why!?! Any restaurant on 25th Avenue, just a few blocks away would seat you right away and serve you much better food. Get the hell out of the mall!

  • Charles M.

This is your run of the mill mall chain that i guess i shouldn't be expecting much from. Good place for an on the go meal but obviously no where to bring someone special. Food was ok, had the tequila chicken fettucine, which was surprisingly good, a change from the normal pasta, the crab cakes were extremely tiny for the price. Definitely a family oriented place, for some reason this night the lights kept dimming off and on like someone leaning on the light switch, which got annoying after awhile (luckily no one had a seizure).....And I hate the seats write in the window, makes you feel like your being watched you entire meal, kinda eerie.. 8/

WHERE TO BEGIN!? how about the begining? wait is usually pretty long cause it's packed at this location... why, i'll never know. The waiter signals us to come with him to be seated... yay... we walk all the way to our table to find another party being seated at our table... WOW i've never had this happened... then we get escorted back to the front in the walk of shame... Now i'm more awestruck than pissed off. 10 minutes later we get signaled again... "are you sure?" and they are... where do we get seated? the same table... so they must have kicked the other party out? way to make a bad situation worse... so we sit down with no plates, utensils or anything and look over the menu... order some drinks that show up after reminding our attendant a few times.... food arrives and still no utensils... i love eating salad with my fingers... even contemplated converting some straws into chopsticks....

We ended up eating here as I threw hate on having Chinese food yet again and M balked at Japanese. The meal was okay although M did not like her Tostada pizza. However, the reason they are getting only a single star is that there were flies all around the drinks dispenser. We had sat at the bar since the place was packed but did not notice the flies until halfway through the meal. Upon speaking to the manager (Wildon), his response was "We know about it" with no attempt to address things. I would highly recommend that management address the lack of customer service ASAP.

I had to run some mall errands during my lunch hour, saw this place and figured I'd grab something quick to go. No such luck! I ordered a simple BBQ chicken chopped salad and waited FOREVER. The guy running the takeout cash register was a mess. He looked busy but he was the most inefficient person ever. My order was sitting on the counter for at least 15 minutes. I pointed it out to the woman who was waiting on the people seated at the counter, but she said she couldn't give it to me -- that the highly inefficient guy --who at that moment was hunting down cup lids for an order by a man who had been waiting there even longer than me--had to give it to me. Puh-lease! I paid for the darn thing -- just hand it over. One of the customers at the counter told me the place recently replaced its management and since then service has been shot to hell. Never going there again.

I totally prefer the bar - never a wait! Also, service is better there and you get a nice pizza-making show. I also don't go for the pizza - the apps (the spinach and artichoke dip - yum!) and salads are great. Pastas are decent.

  • Jaclyn P.

Not the greatest pizza I've ever had. The pizza was not the worst I ever had but it wasn't much. It could have been the smell of baby poop that we kept getting a whiff of or all the kids. The service was not that great.

I love love love CPK.... but this is the worst managed store in their chain I have ever dined at. We arrived at 5pm on a weekeday and taken past at least TEN unbussed tables to the back of the restaurant. We then waited too long to finally get to place our order, then an even more horrific wait to get our simple chopped salad and pizza. Iced tea glasses sat unrefreshed a good 15 minutes. Our little waiter finally arrived with some lame excuse which we couldnt understand, but he did get the manager to comp our salad due to the wait. We noticed a considerable improvement in the staff toward the end of the meal when a very butch lady manager started making the rounds. She needs to be there 24/7 if they want to keep this place going. Never had less than a 4 star experience at other CPK locations.

  • Mabelle A.

I always order from the same 3 items - can't break my habit - Sedona Tortilla Soup, BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad or Thai Chicken Spring Rolls. If I eat here, I usually try to scope out a spot at the counter, cause the wait is a long time. Often times I just get 2 of the 3 above to go. Today's to go experience was relatively painless. In the past it's been gut wretching at how slow the process is.

We like this place. But were disappointed with thai pizza. If you are an Asian, dont try that pizza, try in thai restaurant. But the traditional pizzas were really good and it was cheaper too. Sometimes we have to wait for 30 mins or more. Worth waiting!

  • Teresa W.

This place has realllllllly great pizza!! Really busy all the freaking time. Service ain't bad, they give you some good bread in the beginning and they have some pretty good drinks too. Like some peach Italian soda or something. Can't wait to go back!

  • Kimberly H.

They have a good Thai Crunch and Chinese Chicken Salad. I know it's a "pizza kitchen," but their pizzas aren't even all that good. I've tried three of their pizzas (Jamaican Jerk, Roasted Garlic Chicken, and The Works) and all of them weren't very good. Maybe The Works was the best one out of all, but the Jamaican Jerk didn't have much Jerk flavoring and the Roasted Garlic Chicken had more cheese than chicken; very bad thing. Oh and with the Thai Crunch salad, you could add avocado for $2.50 more and get less than half of an avocado or you could bring your own whole avocado for 79 cents. Don't laugh, I've never done it, but am highly considering it. Just a small suggestion.

  • Connie C.

I actually only go to CPK for their pasta dishes and appetizers, not pizza. Their fettuccine with garlic cream sauce, which you can get with chicken or shrimp and mushrooms, is my favorite. The chicken tequila fettuccine is also yummy. For appetizers, get the herb onion focaccia with checca or tortilla spring rolls. I prefer not waiting for a table, and eat at the bar instead. There are just too many families with kids running around and throwing tantrums in the dining area.

OK I used to like this place for a casual and convenient lunch but after the bad service and the long wait for our food, they lost a star. I was with a really special person who deserves so much respect and while you can't go around yelling "Hey this is a living legend I'm sitting here with people! Get with it." I really wanted to! The food was just ok this time. Or maybe bad service makes your taste buds malfunction. Thanks to my awesome dining companion (and the bad tip I convinced him to give the lame waitress) it was a wonderfully memorable time.

Pseudo pizza always entertaining in its "interpretation" of pizza but what really Flipping annoys me is that no matter HOW many empty tables there are there is always a Flipping 25-30 minute wait - even after asking spotty boy at the front podium "why is there a 30 minute wait when half the restaurant is empty?" to which he replied "there isn't enough wait staff" - er...freakin' hire some then, mong-head! CPK in Palo Alto is much better, if you ask me...for gawd's sake, this ain't exactly Spago...right?

My family loves this place. We come here at least once a month. Their pizzas and salads are delicious. The food and service here in the San Mateo location is outstanding. The only complaint I have with this restaurant is the long wait to be seated. It's always crowded especially on Friday nights.

I don't go to CPK anymore. The food is reasonably good, but not priced very reasonably given what it is. Also, they are chincy in the bread. What's up with that? They've lost me for the wrong reasons.

Pizza was OK, wasn't the best I had, wasn't the worst either. It is pricey though for a personal pizza. For that price, you can probably get a full pizza for the family at another pizza restaurant. The service was good and the had TVs around the restuarant so you can catch the game while you eat.

i'd give this place 2.5 stars cause the service sucks here. There is always a long wait, and once you get a table, half the menu isnt available. Very disappointing, when you've been ready to order and once they get to you, they tell you your 3 dish selections has run out!!! arghhhh.

damn, after coming here i think im going to have to pass on coming to CPK in NorCal again. this was a horrible experience. the hostess who brought us to our table was either slow or just doesn't listen well. you dont need to ask how we are doing twice. about 5 seconds apart. "YOU JUST ASKED US!" but its cool whatever. after, our waiter was pretty rude. no hi, welcome or anything...just a "what do you want". are you kidding me? and the plates? omg...almost all were dirty as hell. it had left over chunks of what looked like blueberry and our beer tasted like dish washing soap. learn to wash your cups please! luckily i was still nice enough to tip...tho i shouldnt have. i loved the CPK in irvine but this place im going to have to stay away from.

HORRIBLE service. Considering the fact that this place is a mall eatery we thought the wait would be long but we were seated right away. Seated right away doesn't mean SERVED right away. We must have sat in a half empty restaurant for 15-20 minutes (NO JOKE, we timed it) before a server appeared out of hiding. But did this girl come to serve us? NO. She went straight for the rich white couple that got seated 2 minutes ago. I tried to be understanding and assume that she thought they were there first but she SAW us there when she would deliver food to guests around us. For the 15-20 minutes that we waited she's walk past us several times with other guests' Ketchup, Food, Straws, EVERYTHING YOU COULD THINK OF without ever acknowledging us. We stormed out of there so distraught from the horrible service i will never EVER eat there again.

Wants to be: Spago. Settles for: Crap. I can't understand why Arnold or one of his little droids up in Sacto is not protecting the integrity of the state of California and suing these people for demeaning the state by implying that this is how we here in California view pizza.

I am full agreement that the wait time sucks. But as someone who brings miniature people, ie, kids under the age of 4, California Pizza Kitchen is not such a bad place. The 3 year old likes to play with the bread that they promptly give you, and she loves the crayons and menu. The younger upstart likes to bang on the table and destroy the crayons. So as a family restaurant, it's not so bad. As an adult rating the food and such, they would earn 2 stars. But since I'm a card carrying mom, with the mini people to prove to unbelievers, I stand by my 4 stars. So there.

if i had ever actually paid for a meal here, i might think more critically of it, but as it stands, this is where i go with my boss for a nice expense account lunch. we like to sit by the window, and i get the grilled vegetable salad and a cup of the tortilla soup with an iced tea. it's the best free salad ever, but if i were paying for it, i'd feel a little ripped off.

Okay, so it's a chain and run like one. But I think they attract great staff and the food is consistently good. I've rarely had a waitress/waiter that wasn't welcoming and fun and I always enjoy the food. It's one of the rare places where you can get really good dinner salads. And I love the pizza, although I just ordered a plain cheese pizza and I wasn't completely impressed. But that's my taste. It was cooked well and presented fine. Just not to my taste. I probably should have ordered the garlic chicken pizza, because that's my favorite. My husband and love the Tortilla soup and the Thai Crunch salads. I like their draft beers and we had some kind of strawberry smoothie thing (sorry, can't remember exactly title of the drink) recently and it was quite good. It's moderately priced, so it's not cheap, but not a bad value. But I highly recommend getting there early, before six in the evening or right before noon so you don't have to wait for so long. And during Christmas, it's a nightmare wait at peak times. But overally, we really like this place.

I come here for lunch because it is close to my work. I usually place my order over the phone so that it is ready when I get there. It's usually never ready at the time quoted by the person on the phone. It's also dirty in the restaurant and the servers do not seem happy to be at work. The food is decent but nothing that speaks volume. There is one take out server that is always pleasant though. I wish I could remember his name because he always remembers mine. It's a nice touch.

My company catered lunch from here today. All the vegetarian sandwiches were mixed in with the meat sandwiches, and there was no hint of any vegan sandwiches. And the side salad was wilted and brown. Very disappointing. Going hungry today.

We were in town for a show at the Xpo and stopped here to find a place for lunch on a Thursday during a lunch hour. We were promptly seated, water and bread were brought quickly, orders were taken and arrived promptly at the correct temperature and were made correctly. We were checked on regularly but we didn't feel rushed. We were able to pay and get on our way easily. Everything was spot on.

Service sometimes tends to be hit or miss especially if it gets busy. The complimentary bread doesn't always make it to the table and if does, is usually late. The food though tends to be great which is why the overall 4 star. The Thai peanut salad with avocado instead of chicken rocks every time. The strawberry mango cooler was too sweet but likely because I asked for lite ice (they should have ideally added a little bit more water instead). The arugula asparagus salad is good as well as the sweet corn and chips appetizer.

Yesterday was my first time at California Pizza Kitchen. All I have to say is WOW. Everything was great. I am a picky eater and I have to say that the food was excellent. Not only was the food very good, the customer service provided at CPK was very welcoming and it was very much appreciated. We went in around 715 and we were told the wait was about 10-15 so of course we decided to wait. My friend wanted to look at the menu so when he asked the hostess, she was rude. She just handed him the menu without even looking at him with a smile or anything. This left a horrible impression and I was already dissatisfied. I used to work in a restaurant so I know how important first impressions are and hers was not great. I would recommend getting rid of her because she gave a bad vibe upon 10 mins being there especially that we were first timers. I will not go on about her because the rest of the staff was truly great. We were seated after 10 mins like we were told. The name of the server we had was Gianna. She was amazing. She was very helpful with her suggestions and she really made us feel welcomed. You could tell that she likes her job and she was not bothered no matter how many questions we asked. I loved her customer service and I hope we get her again. The hostess should take a couple tips from Gianna. We were told if we sign up for the rewards, we would receive a free small plate. We got the Shaved Mushroom and Spinach flat bread. It was DELICIOUS. The name of the manager that was working was Becky. She was super nice and friendly. You could tell that she was loved her job as well. She brought us the flat bread which was surprising because managers usually sit there and dont send food. She was very active and we really felt welcomed by her. Its nice to see that even though she is a manager, She still cared to help the servers. We were also served bread and it was soo yummy. The oil with spices was just amazing. For the Entree we ordered the California Cobb Salad and Half Tostada pizza and half California Club. It was amazing. There are no words to describe how good the pizza was. Throughout our entire dinner, Gianna was checking on us and getting a refill and just all around great. Towards the end of the meal, We were so full we did not want to get up and walk. Becky the manager came up and checked on us again. It was so sweet that a manager showed how much she cared about our first time here. She offered us a free dessert but we declined since we were so full. It was really sweet of her and we appreciate the amazing customer service. Both Becky and Gianna really made our first time here amazing and totally made us forget about the rude hostess. We will be back very soon and I will make sure to bring in my family and friends that have never been here before.

First time customer. Came for a fundraiser. As agreed upon by guests, their pizza is basically a personal size. The website doesn't offer size or portion information. And more weird... We got a regular pizza which was not more than 1/4 inch thick...so what is a thin pizza? I also got a "bowl" of $7 bean soup and asked about the size-- so a "bowl" is "maybe" 6-8 oz of soup. It was small and is still uneaten on my kitchen island. The $4+ "cup" means they fill that small container half full. Servers were nice but this is a 100% fast food rip off. Never EVER coming here for pizza again!

At the mall on a Friday night, the stores are closing and my friend and I find that we're starving. We decide to go to CPK. Turns out EVERYONE had the same idea. CPK is packed with families and there are a dozen more waiting. There are two of us so we could have sat at the bar but it basically looked like sitting in the kitchen, so we waited. And waited. And waited. We finally got probably the worst two-top in the place, right next to the seats we'd rejected. Ha! Next to one of the waiter stations. We cajoled our way into a better seat but were clearly hated for asking. No matter. We were in a nice booth and could rest after a long shopping spree. I ordered a glass of wine and they ask if you want small or large. HUH? Regular glass of wine, which one is regular? 6 oz or 9 oz is the answer. Good lord. My friend ordered a Corona and I kid you not, the waiter brought a 24 oz giant bottle! She said "oh, I had no idea it was a giant bottle." We're totally mystified as the waiter knows that it's just the two of us girls. "I can't drink all this, I wish you would have said something," she says. To which the waiter shrugs and says something about thinking we wanted to party. UGH. I've eaten at lots of CPKs and -- for a chain restaurant -- it's quite good. Crispy crust, regular pizzas, the signature dishes, big salads, I love it all. But this particular one needs to be cleaned and/or remodeled. It has that gross dirty carpet smell that puts me right back in college to my days waiting tables. It's the way a lot of places smell before they start cooking the food. But when you're sitting right next to the kitchen in full swing, and it smells like dirty carpet, it makes you wonder just how filthy it is. Kind of ruins the experience.

Surprisingly, this place was packed around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon, though we didn't wait at all for a table. I don't remember being enchanted with CPK on my one or two visits to the chain, but I very much enjoyed the food we had this meal: we shared a The Works pizza, which includes sausage, pepperoni, olives, onions, and peppers and a full size roasted veggie salad. They ask if you want complimentary bread, which of course I accepted. The oil and herb mixture they offer for dipping is very savory, fragrant, and tasty. I have actually found myself thinking about it since my meal here and contemplating how to recreate it at home. I liked the saltiness of the meats on the pizza. Most of all, I liked how the pizza wasn't overladen with cheese and the thin, crispiness of the crust. It's fun and all to see strings of cheese dripping of pizza, but to eat it that way actually grosses me out. CPK has a lighter, more appetizing take on pizza. The roasted veggie salad consisted of a spring mix with avocado, asparagus, artichoke, and other yummy greens. I might ask for a bit lighter hand with the balsamic dressing next time, but the salad was overall tasty and with added protein would definitely satisfy as a meal by itself. The total plus tax and tip was $35 for three of us, which is a reasonable price. This lunch boosted my opinion of CPK! Now, I will think of it as a good place for an affordable sit-down meal with high quality food.

One of my fave at CPK! I had the Cedar Plank Salmon - Roasted on a cedar plank on a hearth oven with smoked paprika and lime. Served with white corn & spinach succotash topped with Feta. It was fantastic! Our waiter was excellent.. simple as that! Will definitely come again. (Late post: 7/19/15)

Okay, Okay, I am guilty! This was my first time here on 3/16/15! Yes I said it, FIRST TIMER! I came ONLY because I had a $50 gift certificate and I was SO happy but after I looked at the menu I knew ACTUALLY why my gift card was for so much! Well hello! There prices are a little HIGH! I ordered: -Appetizer: Avocado Club Egg Rolls! ~5\5 Very yummy and I loved the dipping sauce that comes with it! Salad-: Asian Chicken Salad ~10\5 haha really they exceeded my expectations! I truly couldn't get enough of this and wanted to ask for another order! It was SO delicious and definitely a MUST try! I was sad to see the pricing of it but hey its worth it. No doubt! Meal: I ordered their Hawaiian Hand tossed pizzas which was totally enough for me and another person to share.( Please note, this place doesn't have thick crust). Hours of operation: ~Mon - Thurs 11:00 AM-09:00 PM ~Fri - Sat 11:00 AM-10:00 PM ~Sun 11:00 AM-08:00 PM Just a note: this place does get packed and busy during Friday through Sunday! Every available service per location is different but this particular location provides: ~Catering ~ Complimentary Parking ~Curbside Service ~ Delivery (M-F, until 2pm, 5 mile radius, $100 min) ~Full Bar ~ Hosts FUNdraisers ~Kids Menu ~Online Ordering ~ Patio Seating ~Takeout Menu ~Valet Parking I would definitely be back here again! I have SO many other things I would like to try on their menu!

I love CPK but honestly the service we got really made me uncomfortable & not wanting to go back ... The food is amazing but service is everything. I went in the afternoon with some of my girlfriends to enjoy some yummy food from here. The waiter we had was some older guy (in the picture you can see the side of his face). My friend asked him if the chicken on her salad could be cut into smaller pieces and he said "I'll see if they have time". Wait what ? Are we not paying for this food? Shouldn't it be made how we want it? That is a sentence I never want to hear from a waiter, I'm here paying for my food therefore my food better be made how I want it. If it's extra $$ just tell me but don't tell me your going to see if they have time. He was a rude waiter overall and did not seem very happy to be our waiter. The tip we left was very generous because he really just deserved perhaps a $1 for taking our orders. -unhappy customer (Val)

My family went to this restaurant to celebrate my nephew's birthday instead of Cheesecake Factory because the wait was 2 hours. I don't eat at CPK very often. I don't even really know where it is located in SF. It's good for a fun family dinner. It's not expensive. It's nicer than Pizza Hut or any pizza joint. it's a sit down restaurant with an American ambience. I shared the Moroccan salad and Kung Pao spaghetti with my mom and dad. There's nice bread with olive oil to start. I also got a lemonade(free refills) and a key lime pie slice that was generous. Their lemonade recipe wasn't the best I've had. I think it's fun every once in a while, and I'd come back to CPK.

CPK is a good middle of the road option. It is not great and it is not bad either. This particular location has an appeal because it is close to the food court at the Hillsdale mall and a better option that anything you can find there.

I'll leave a good review if the repercussions of an issue is taken up with fantastic customer service, but when the solution of an issue becomes worse than the issue itself, that's when shit hits the fan. We complained about small protein portions in both a taco and salad dish. You're paying $5 extra for salmon in your salad and you get 3 thumb-sized chunks... So of course, we bring it up with our waiter. He brings the manager over, and the lady sees AND she herself points out "oh that's all they put on your taco..?" And then proceeds to defend why and how the kitchen pre-measures out their protein portions for their dishes. Then asks if we would like more of the salmon and mahi mahi on the dishes. UMM YA THINK? The fact that you have to still ask to provide us with something we already brought to your attention is a Customer service faux paux. #byefelicia

First time at this restaurant, I ordered roast veggie with grill shrimp, it is delicious!!!! Would definitely order again next time. Remember half side order is good enough for one person.

Surprisingly excellent food and service tonight. It's been awhile since we have been here. The food quality has really improved significantly and our server Teresa was spot on. Will definitely be back again.

If they ever take the BBQ Chicken Salad off the menu, I will be a sad, sad woman. I love that salad. I've eaten it for years, and it's been consistently good all that time. I imagine that many other people feel as I do. I like the pizzas as well. They seem to keep the same ones on the menu, which is swell by me. I enjoy the five cheese with tomato, the Thai chicken, and the BBQ chicken. What I'm NOT so in love with, however: prices seem to go up every time I visit. I know these things happen. I also wish they'd get their old bread back -- I think it used to be Boudin. What they have now isn't *bad*, but it used to be *great.* That said, I really like the food, and the service is friendly and usually pretty efficient. Order takeout, sit at the counter, or sit at a table. In fact, I usually do takeout. I'll place my order, shop in some neighboring stores, and come back to get my food. Et voila! Lunch or dinner is (almost) served.

I've been coming to this CPK for years and I've always had great experiences. The food is standard CPK which is exactly what I come for. This location can get reallllly busy as it is in a pretty big mall. No complaints from me!

I'm not going to lie, I love CPK! Oddly enough, I don't care much for their pizzas but I always find myself coming back for their pasta and appetizers. Food: - Chicken Tequila Fettuccine: My favorite pasta dish ever!! It's very unique and I've never had a fettuccine that was bursting with so much flavor. It doesn't taste like tequila per se, but there is a nice hint of lime and peppers within the sauce, and it has the perfect amount of creaminess. It comes with ample chicken and bell peppers and usually I can't even finish all of the meat. The noodles are always just the right texture and are never overcooked or under cooked. This is definitely a major plus for me, because a lot of restaurants, especially chain restaurants, do not cook the noodles for just the right amount of time. - Avocado egg rolls: These are crispy, sweet and salty, and who knew avocados would go so well within an egg roll. This is an appetizer that I usually never pass up whenever I come to CPK. Service: I've never had an issue with the service or the wait. Most I've waited is about 15 minutes, and I've had attentive service each time. The waiters are always around to refill your water or ask if you need anything else, and for a busy restaurant they've always provided great service. CPK is definitely reliable for a cheap but satisfying dinner and the service has yet to disappoint.

I would have given 0 stars but for some weird reason didn't. 1) my pick was at 7.25 pm somehow I am late 10 mins so I arrive at 7.35 they say it will say take more 30 mins to bake salmon. 2) rude service. Completely F****ng annoying. They would give you attitude man. The girl with Dior specs at the take out service is a fail. 3) never go

I simply love this place- awesome ambience, niche staff, great food and super dessert. I like their pizzas, avocado egg roll and desserts are to die for... There have been times when I just went in to have flatbreads and dessert.

Ordered caramelized peach salad - the greens are soaked with very SALTY balsamic vinaigrette - I'm not going to have salad here again... Four of us in one table and gave us 4 tiny slices of bread - really? This restaurant is going downhill - not a fan ...

Strangely enough, we come here specifically for their Jambalaya pasta dish. Their pizzas are good too if you like their thin crust style which I do. Being a chain restaurant you have to set your expectations accordingly. The service can be hit or miss but lately has been fairly consistent. Pizza here is a step above fast food pizza like papa johns but not quite the same as more authentic pizza places with coal or wood fire ovens or artisan pizzerias. The ingredient combinations available are good and will satisfy any pizza craving.

Personally had good service during their lunch on this Saturday. We came close to 2pm, there was a line out the door but everyone was seated promptly. We waited less than 5 minutes and seated along the wall across from the expediting area. All the orders seem to be cracking out of the kitchen, only thing is, there's no heat lamp so if your food is sitting there a while, it will get cold. For us, our food was fast, hot, and delicious. I tried the salad pizza and it was amazing and filled you up. Our server was really good, asked us to join the rewards program and offered all other possible food recommendations. We had iced teas and he was super fast with identifying when our drinks were getting low and asking us for a refill. In/out before 3pm. I can see how this place can be a hit or miss but the last few times I've been here it has been good. I must come when it's slow because it can easily get chaotic with its small space.

Good for what it is, a casual family-friendly spot with broad enough selection of good food and drink. The flatbread pizza appetizers were very good (spicy fennel sausage pizza) and the popular fish tacos are good too. The pastas can be hit or miss and sometimes use a lot of oil. Desserts are kind of unnecessary given all the carbs here, but we got them anyway since it was more convenient to stay in one place, and they were fine.

Ok so I used to work here and clearly the customer satisfaction and derive has gone down. The last two time I came here my servers were very slow and rude. After a very exhausted day at work I would like to get some good food and enjoy and nice time with my husband . So I came in today and we ordered soup, tricolori pizza and chicken piccata . As we wait for a long time for our food the host was very nice enough to ask is if someone has take our order. Right after she asked all of our food is brought to the table. Firstly that is. It ok because by the time we finish the soup the rest of the food will be cold ! Even though I did not specify with the server Igor should have asked us if we wanted all out items at separate times. I had to speak to a manager and send the food back . This really pisses me off and I will most likely not come here ever ! I was not going to leave a tip but my husband have him $3.

Good pizza but service is bad so one star instead of the 4 the food would rate. Omg. Terrible phone service. Just trying to order a pizza for pickup and had to talk with 3 different people each more rude than the last. They make you feel like you are supposed to understand what there'll is going on behind their scenes "Oh, well that was the call center - you should call... ". What the f? I called your published phone number. And in the store I see workers on break almost lying down in the booth with feet in the isle.

I had a gift card, so I came to CPK. Worst restaurant ever. Before ordering the tostada pizza, we asked if the pizza (especially because of the ranch sauce) is vegetarian and does not contain eggs. Waitress confirmed that it is a vegetarian pizza. We asked again just to be sure and were reassured. Later we found out that the pizza not only had eggs but also had anchovies! I wrote to the corporate office. I got a standard email saying someone will follow up. And that was that - it's been weeks! I can understand that mistakes are made sometimes. But it is a different story when the restaurant does not care at all about quality or service. Also, in this case, it is really worst - what if I had some food allergies?! Service is not that great, and food is just whatever for the high price you are paying. The pizza barely had any topping other than lettuce, and it was also cold. I would rather take my business to some local restaurant.

Been to CPK 3 times in the past month. Always between 2-5Pm, before it gets too crowded. We have had great service. #1 Want great customer service? Get Hugo as your waiter or talk to Mark, the manager. #2 Food recommendations. Remember, this is not a traditional Mexican place, it is mostly a pizza place with a twist. We always stick to the small plate appettizers which are a great deal. Definitely recommend the Poblano Flat breads. Cedar plank salmon is a good choice too, but a little overpriced at $19 But a good choice. The Italian chopped salad is one of of our favorites. Good portion size on the full. Enough for 3. The kids pizza combos a re a great deal if you have kids under 11. #3 Place is comfortable when not full. Too bad it is not on the second level with an type of view. Too bad they usually close the back session and patio weekdays in the afternoon. C'mon, want to eat outside when its sunny! 5 stars is mostly for the service we have received so far and the food. We also love that we get free bread when we order. Also, kudos for honoring a coupon that their corporate sent us via e-mail in error. They had to, but the attitude they had was cool. No fuzz!

Don't count on this place for delivery. Wilted Arugula salad, processed dressing, two slices of stale bread for two entrees and no butter anymore. The corporate giants have taken over. Too Bad. It was good at one point. Every time a good corporate executive gets promoted, it's because she or he saved them money--after all, that's how they get promoted... The threshold for corporations is to SAVE MONEY. So to get an advance, they find a way to cut costs, and unfortunately quality or quantity too. It's a vicious cycle that all corporations go through until they ultimately fail. Too bad they had to sell out.

We just went to CPK this morning and we go there every weekend! My favorite dishes are cheese pizza and pasta. When I eat there, my Dad always order me a lime juice because it's delicious! Also, the super nice guy Brian behind the counter always offer his best possible services whenever we're there eating & watching ball games on TV! Thanks Brian ... my friend! Thank You,

Food was great as always. Service was just ok this time. Although very pleasant, our server (or anyone for that matter) didn't check up on us after the food was served. All of us had some type of pasta and we were trying to get anyone's attention for a.side of parmisean cheese. No biggie, but would have been nice to have while the pasta was hot....

First they get rid of the Rosemary Chicken Potato Pizza and now the Sundried Tomato and Broccoli Fusilli?! My two favorite menu items are gone!! :( Aside from that, this location is always pretty busy since it's located inside the Hillsdale Shopping Center. If there are seats open, I like sitting at the bar if there's just two of us. It's fun to see the pizzas baking and everything else going on in the kitchen. They give you complementary bread and butter but I always ask for fresh out of the oven pita bread (and butter) instead for only a $1 charge.

I don't have anything riveting to say except, the grilled veggie salad was acceptable and the pizza was OK. I had to order a pizza sans the cheese as I am vegan. Places like these would benefit in revamping their menu to make room for vegan and even gluten free options.

I really like California Pizza Kitchen. Prices are good, salads are delicious, so far we love coming to this place! The only thing we noticed with my husband is that in general the men working here have a better service than women. I love this place anyways :)

I had a bad experience the last time I was at a CPK in southern California but the smile on the host Amber made me feel welcomed. She was beyond helpful and friendly. Host are important at a restaurant because they are the first person we see when we walked in a restaurant. I am glad Amber was there and I had a wonderful experience. I will diffidently come again but only the days Amber is working. Great job Sweetie!

The Background: Chain restaurant nestled in the mall right by Starbucks and nordstorm in Hillsdale Mall. Would describe it as "fancier than pizza hut pizza" with salads, pastas. The details: Ordered takeout at this location and when I came on a Sunday Night it was pretty crowded for both take out and dine in. Food was ready on time as promised...I was able to pick everything up in about 5-10 minutes. Definitely recommend the habinero carnitas pizza - think carnitas, cilantro pesto, cheese and the SPICIEST SALSA EVER. It packs and punch! ($14.11 with tax, which is kind of pricey I mean you can buy pizza hut and feel just as deliciously good for less in my opinion. ) My experience was positive, but my friend who ordered take out too was missing bread, utensils, salad dressing. So that was unfortunate, hopefully this isn't the typical case and a fluke caused by a flustered server. The verdict: Takeout is super easy at this location, in and out and you can either call in or order online. CPK is a great pizza choice for when you really don't know what to eat and want something safe and are willing to fork over a little extra for dinner.

Kung Pao spaghetti! Wow! I used to order from CPK at least twice a week. Amazing selection and everything was so flavorful. I moved out of the area now but I try my best to come back to this location. The other locations aren't on the same par!

A good place to eat when out shopping but I wouldn't make a special trip. It's always busy, which isn't a bad thing but as I'm usually alone they try to push me into having lunch at the bar. I don't like eating at a bar so every time I have to ask for a real table, then they almost always give me this horrid table next to the kitchen. Seriously, every time. I understand they are trying to maximize the tables but I feel like I'm being punished for not being a party of 4. Anyway...the food is always pretty good and consistent. The pear and gorgonzola pizza is AMAZING. They did take my favorite dish off the menu...it was fusilli pasta with brocolli and goat cheese. Oh well...I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because the servers range from very good to how in the world did this person get a job as a waiter?? There is one guy who is so unhappy working there it is torture to be waited on by him. I can tell he just wants to be anywhere else but this place and it breaks my heart. But...sometimes I get very friendly and happy servers so it balances out. I would recommend the management do more for employee morale.

I really try my best to avoid restaurant chains, but this one is too good to resist. The salads are tasty and can be as healthy or as un-healthy as you desire. The thin crust pizza has a crispy crust and won't over-fill you. And the key lime pie, creamy and tart with a firm and crunchy graham cracker crust, is great. Consistent as well, we have been there about 10 times (Hillsdale mall).

This review is for the shady practices at this restaurant. After dining here on a Thursday evening, I received an alert from my credit card that I had given a more than generous tip. While I had provided just over 20%, the credit card noticed a 30% tip. The waiter took it upon himself to increase his tip. With other better options in the area, we will not return to a restaurant that chooses to steal from their customers.

We came here tonight and I've got to say, right off the bat - service is very lacking! I know, it's a chain and what do you expect, but this was bad. We walked in and a few people working there just looked at us - no welcome or hello or we'll be right with you. A woman walked up to the register but didn't acknowledge us, so we asked if we should order there and sit, or just seat ourselves, or what and she said she'd seat us if we could just wait a minute. Not feeling the aloha here!! (I realize this ain't a Hawaiian place, but a little aloha is welcome everywhere.) The food was just ok. I had the sausage, mushroom, and pepperoni pizza on a thin crust. Very little sausage and the crust was not impressive - it was thin, I'll give it that. Lois had the roasted veggie salad but ordered it with ranch dressing. The salad came with the original vinaigrette dressing and ranch on the side, so she sent it back. When it came back correct she enjoyed it and thought it was quite good. Kinda expensive for what it is, though. Overall, the layout and look of the place isn't bad. It's comfortable and not too loud. Definitely a family friendly place, I think it's geared toward that. Considering the average food and the subpar service, though, I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

Suspending disbelief is the key ingredient in enjoying an excellent meal here. Forget for a moment that you are at the edge of a busy shopping mall, children with limited manners, parents constantly checking their iDevices and the busyness with which the staff runs around delivering drinks and food around the place. sitting at the horseshoe bar focuses your attention on the oven and guys making the pizza - a great source of inspiration if you aren't sure what to order. Or... you could go on a random weeknight when it is much more quiet, sedate and decibels of an enjoyable level. Sit at the horseshoe bar and focus on the nice brick oven. This was a weeknight date spot for me and the girl for quite a while. 2 glasses of wine and soup or salad to start, then we could relax and decide what to get on on the main course, pizza. No hurry, no whining kids, no rushing servers waiting on multiple tables with multiple requests. Just calm, yummy scents and the heat from the brick oven. The BBQ chicken is the old standby, but they have lots of other standards (pepperoni and cheese) and more exotic mix and match pizzas with seasonal greens, veggies and so on. If you do go on the weekend, specifically let the host(ess) know that you prefer bar seating - no kids allowed at the bar and you get in and seated quicker. Then you can head over to Williams Sonoma, with a full belly and the inspiration to spend $20 on a pizza cutter.

Friend and I were craving for some pizza and we didn't want to go back into the city and find parking for an hour (we were already at Tanforan) - everyone knows parking in San Francisco requires, especially when it is dinner time and you are extremely hungry! We decided on CPK, plus I wanted the avocado egg roll appetizer, I find that CPK's avocado egg roll is much tastier than BJ's (and of course we ordered it, yum). We each ordered a pizza and we ended up having to take most of it home, not because it was bad but we were stuffed. I would say the food isn't bad for achain restaurant and the service is great (the waitress was nice and responsive) and I would come back again..but it isn't the best pizza out there but it is good enough to fill your tummy.

The Chicken tequila pasta is my fav and that's what i always order here. I m giving a 4-star due to the food, but the service is bad, I mean i understand they get busy but the gentleman we had was horrible. Didn't offer bread, messed up the order, didn't re-fill the drinks, so i actually asked another waiter instead of the one we had. But food is always amazzzzzzing :-)

Did I tell you yelpers that my salad came with a live bug? That looked like a roach? Freaking tentacles waving at me! I lost it!!!!!!! Oh did I mention I had already started to eat the salad? That the bug was underneath inside my salad!! That it was mixed in with the Ceasars dressing and shrimp? The waiter rushed my plate to the back! The manager was a prick! Not one apology! Just we washed the lettuce is all he said! I could've died! I had no idea which country the bug was from if it had been a lettuce bug deported! All I could think of was me dying from this nasty bug which was living inside my salad that I could have ate it's baby eggs or anything! And all this jack ass could say is we wash the salad! No apology no nothing! I asked him for his manager number he gave me a bogus one, I asked him to call his manager, he said no! I asked for a copy of this report/incidence and he said he couldn't do it! All lies! Coward. I called their corporate they took my report, supposedly the manager called me just listened to what I had to say and that was it! Never heard from them again!!! Screw this dirty nasty place ! And screw the idiots eating in the restaurant saw me in tears about this experience and just looked away. Hope you all had baby eggs and larva in your food.

Good service, good food. Our server recommended the Kung Pao pasta, which I usually would not get. I'm Chinese eating at an American restaurant. Think I want Chinese food here when I can get authentic ones some place else? Well, both the waiter and my friend recommended it, so I got it. He also recommended putting mac and cheese with it, and it was de-li-cious!! Look at the picture I uploaded to see how it looks. My friend got the Garlic tortillini which was also good. But I loved how mine was spicy and creamy. I guess I guessed wrong about thinking the Kung Pao pasta wouldn't taste good =P I don't know about their pizza, but this review was just for pasta and their customer service which I think is excellent.

Okay Yes, I admit it.. I go to CPK.. Who doesn't? It's conveniently located and a great quick place to grab a reasonably priced lunch. I like a few of their salads-- in fact one in particular, I get on a regular basis, the Asparagus & Arugula Salad.. It's delicious! They have lots of vegetarian options and I absolutely love their mushroom pizza.. ( when I'm in the pizza mode...) it's delicious with Shitakes, and maitakes, and portobellos and all that good stuff. We always order the honey oat grain thin crust verses the standard and I think it's supposed to be healthier.. not too sure about that, but it's good. Anyway I've always had great service and fairly fast food for a great price at this CPK. You can't go wrong here! ;-)

Amazing. Hawaiian and The Works are what my boyfriend and I ordered last night. So good! I always underestimate how filling pizza can be. We left with two slices of each to take home. Staff is always smiling and helpful to suggest their favorite dishes. Be sure to eat here if you're ever searching for food at Hillsdale!

I've been to this location a couple times before and it's been pretty consistent. Once again, the service was pretty good and there was nothing to complain about as far as the food went. It's also a great place for large parties and very kid friendly. We started out with two orders of spinach artichoke dip. It came out fast and the seven of us had no problems polishing them off pretty quickly. If you are going to visit CPK the dip is the way to go. The rest of the food was decent, although nothing to really write home about. There was spaghetti, Garlic Cream Fettuccine with chicken, pizza, salads and a few other things. I really enjoyed the frozen strawberry lemonade, it was like a lemonade slushy. I'll definitely be getting one of those next time I'm there! Our waiter was very friendly. Although, there was one order that wasn't right. They apologized profusely and still had the right dish out before he finished his salad. Overall it's a little on the pricey side for what you are getting, but they have something for everyone and the food doesn't suck.

Came here as a "spur of the moment" kinda deal. We ordered the wild mushroom pizza w/ chicken (which was absolutely no good). It was tasteless, bland, and they didn't put enough sauce. Also ordered the artichoke dip which was da bomb! They served it with tortilla chips and it was mucho delicious. Service was nice.

Ok I would have gave 5 stars if i didn't have a bad experience last night when my daughter called in a order so we can make a movie on time, but when i got there she said there was no order called in, so the call center made a mistake with the order and when i called back she was rude and said well i dont have anything under you name so call the restaurant manager i cant help you. well that would have made me give 1 star but the restaurant made the order real quick and that made me feel better about coming back.

I had the margharita pizza here, and my boyfriend got some kind of pasta dish that was so unmemorable that I can't remember what it was (!) Both dishes were very blah. Had I known this, I would have seriously chosen RoundTable Pizza over this. Not only would I have saved a few bucks, I would have also had good take home food for the next 2 days. Maybe we just ordered the 2 worst dishes on the menu, but I really just don't get this place.

Used Hillsdale Mall CPK twice this week for take out sandwiches and soup. I enjoyed the sandwich the first time so much that I went there second time a few days later. Food looked great and tested even greater. Quality was awesome. It was super easy to place order online and the food was ready when I got there at a stated time. The personnel at the pickup desk was friendly and handed over me the food with a smile. I would certainly use them again.

Came and ordered a half Cesar salad with shrimp and a lemonade (I don't know why, but I love CPK lemonade!). The waiter brought me a pink drink (I assume strawberry lemonade) and I told him I asked for regular lemonade to which he responded "Do you want to try it anyways?" which I thought was kind of rude and said no.... But other than that, the salad was great and I think he felt bad because he was really great with our bread and water after that.

This place has been alright the couple times I've been here. Pizza is okay, not the worst I've had. However, the most recent time I went, our waitress was so rude. She walked up to our table and said, "K, what do you want?" and while we were still trying to decide, she picked at her finger nails like she was bored out of her mind. The only other time I saw her was when she dropped off our drinks, (which she never came to check on). I didn't see her for the delivery of the pizza, no check-ups on what we might need, and no delivery of the check. It's not like she was on break or something, because I saw her at her other tables. Whatever, she got a $0.50 tip anyway. But still, rude service from their wait staff.

It had been a few years since I last ate at a CPK and the reality of it is I just haven't had much of a palate or interest in commercial chains anymore. Well a craving for a Santa Fe pizza is what lured me here. I was craving that marinated lime chicken, guacamole, and sour cream goodness on their signature crust. Upon perusing their menu, my heart dropped after a vigorous scan turned up fruitless. They had taken it off the menu!! Grrr! I hate when that happens! Years ago, they also took off the White Tartufo which I've never ever found anywhere else. Well our very helpful and empathizing waiter Genaro tried to help me find an equivalent. He recommended the Tostada. While it was good, it didn't really come close to my Santa Fe. That pretty much sealed the deal for me. No reason to ever return to a CPK.

the service was 1 star. i would give zero if it were an option. the food was 3 stars the ambiance was 3 stars. i would say it would be a good place to take your kids, but the wait staff was so slow that if you have impatient young children, go elsewhere. cheescake factory is on the other side of the mall. the service is fast and the food is better. cpk has always been one of my favorite places to eat- but the experience i had here was so awful, i may never go back.

Love this place go here all the time! Bread and pizza are amazing. Brownie sundae is to die for! Only downside is the horrible service.

The few times that I've come to this particular CPK, I can't really say that I've had outstanding service, but I can't say I've had the most horrible either. The menu is the same as any other CPK and the most recent time, I ordered the Jambalaya. It was delicious like all the other times I've ordered it elsewhere. They really skimmed on the tortilla chips when my friend and I ordered it from the 'small cravings' menu though. My friend ordered the meat cravers pizza and it looked like it was suppose to. Like others, I'm not too sure what the fuss is with the pizza, but I guess it works. The service was ok. I think three different people helped us. This man that arrived after my friend and I ended up getting his food way before my friend and I even got our appetizer (which was just the chips), which was weird to us. Regardless, this CPK location was only 'ok' to me. Decent service with usual yummy food.

California Pizza Kitchen. It's always busy. It's always crowded. It's always a favorite. Win! CPK is located inside hillsdale mall, right next to Bebe, Nordstrom, & William Sonoma. We came in for dinner on a random week night around 8pm. There were about 4 groups in front of us. We plopped our tired (from shopping) behinds on the leather couch inside the reastaurant, and 15 minutes later we were seated. We shared an order of the sicilian thin crust pizza & a small plate of artichoke hearts. The sicilian pizza was filled w/sausage, ham, salami, onions, and parsley. Out come 7 slices of pipin' warm yummy pizza, perfect to share among 2 ladies. I loved the spicy kick from the sausages. Yum! The breaded artihoke hearts were truly small.. out came about 6 pieces of artichoke hearts powdered w/ parmesan cheese and served with a side of blue cheese dressing. It was good, but very small. The restaurant was all yellow, clean, and cute; the bathroom was the same, except it was blue & grey. Service was good, although not great. Dinner cost us about $20 total. Not bad. Next up was Starbucks, it's right across the way. Perfect end to a night of shopping & casual dining w/ a girlfriend.

Gotta give this place some love for their "Thai chicken Pizza".Not really a huge fan of pizza, but their "Thai chicken Pizza" brings all the unique california flavors that I just can not turn down. Its like eating Pad thai, thin honey wheat crust all in one bite. This place was the first place I ate at after moving here from the East coast and this place represents all the unique flavors California has to offer. It may be a chain, but its not your average pizza joint. Definitely a fan!

Didnt like this location as much as the San Jose Blossom Hill location. :( We did try the avocado eggrolls and omg so good. I could have eaten that for my meal with the salad and the bread. The pizza just wasnt as good as the last one we had at the San Jose location. Barely any cheese at all, not as crispy, and just meh. Service was fine, the cocktails were great and I love the salad. I'll try Palo Alto next then if that sucks too its back to San Jose.

I am generally a huge fan of the CPK chain. But yesterday's dining experience changed it all. First they screw up my order. Ok so the pizza with whole wheat crust is going to take additional 20 min. After waiting and finally when the pizza arrives, the salsa that goes with the Tostada pizza isn't there. That takes another 25 min. 25 min to make salsa. wow ! So basically it involved me sitting and drinking water ; staring at my friend as she ate her salad. I got sick and tired and packed it as a to-go. So much for an enjoyable dinner. BAH !! Awful !!

Really good Pizza. It's sad that's all I can say. The drinks were horrid. We order a mohito and the mint was old. As if we were not going to notice. On top of that, we ask for a specific tequila, wasn't done. To top it off, we returned the mohito and they still charge us for it. $50 not worth a pizza.

We enjoy the food when it's done right- and mostly it really IS done right :) The waitlist system is a mess, and the staff we've encountered handling the waitlist have been beyond disorganized. Example: We've repeatedly had our names skipped, after waiting LONGER than the stated wait time. So finally, I feel compelled to write a review. * Here's an idea: Hand out alerting monitors during long wait times so guests can browse nearby shops, instead of sitting around & hovering within earshot inside the echoing mall atrium. This isn't rocket science, this isn't even a new technology, and it's been used in restaurants for at least a decade by now. * Here's a simpler idea: Have staff neatly cross-out who's been seated and where they've been seated. Why? Because the CPK staff have said to me: "Oh! Some one took your table." which is ridiculous, b/c 1) the statement addresses the issue of who I should blame, instead of how the CPK staff plan to fix the mistake. * Here's the simplest idea of all: Have the SAME staff person manning & calling out the waitlist names, in order to minimize confusion. Good service and smart management matters. So we'll send our dollars elsewhere. Thank goodness there's plenty of good eating in San Mateo.

I had not been here since literally 1997, mostly because I thought the food was just okay and way overpriced. I decided I would give the place a try and man has their menu expanded. The roasted vegetable salad was delicious and the half size is more than enough. They have a couple of small plate options that were low cost and high taste. I enjoyed my experience.

I gotta say that for being a chain the food is not bad. I like going here because as a parent , They have a nice area for family in the back where the noise level can go up. Lots of family bring there children and share a meal. I like to come here because they have excellent salads and pizza. When I order the pizza I like to order it with the wheat crust. The full size order of salads is good enough to share ( so I take some home with the bread for lunch the next day or a snack for later) Service is hit and miss because staff turnover is high. But for the most part they have been good.

Overall, it is what it is. Chain food that's just so-so. The food we had was salty to the point where it was not edible. I love salty foods, but this really took it to another level. Since it is institutional food (ala McDonald's or Denny's or another corporate chain restaurant), the food is usually pre packaged sent from the factory. All I can say is the salt factor needs to be brought down to a massive level. One of the problems many restaurants face is the difference between flavor and salt. If there are lots of flavors already, salt use can be at most, minimal. When u try to jack up the flavor with salt, then all u get is extreme salty food and a most unpleasant experience. I doubt my family and I will be going back anytime soon. It has the potential to be better should they pay attention to flavor, and not salt, but it's simply not there yet. Lemonade was also very weak. More watery than lemony. No thanks.

I like CPK, I think that their food is good! I am a real fan of their customer service specially their day supervisor! I feel bad cause I forget his name I think it's Mike, but we went there for veteran's day and he was the supervisor on shift. He was very helpful and super nice! Great service!

Went here with a girlfriend for lunch before shopping. It was a very busy place. But we got lucky to be seated quickly. I guess a party of two is always a good number. I ordered their Asian Chicken Salad and it was awesome. I love their freshly baked house bread as well. Their service is quite friendly which was why we had a great lunch. This is not a fast food mall type of food. You get waited on and they serve it fresh. Even though it is a food chain, I'm a fan.

Great food, bad service. And by that I mean no service at all. Also not a fan of their prepackaged still hard from the fridge butter and store bought bread. Went with my loverman, only place we didn't leave a tip at. I think we might've left a quarter.

Is this the best pizza on Earth? No. But it's consistent. It has some pretty decent pizza for our money. I've gone to CPKs for far longer than I want to admit but this one in the mall we've been going to for about 10 years. It can feed my hubs and I, my vegetarian Mom and my picky eater son. Tonight, though, I have to give them major shout out. We had dinner there. It was around 7pm and the place was jumping. A lot of families, a lot of people, a lot of noise. We kind of had to shout out our order to our waiter. He brought us our drinks, apologized because he had ice in my Mom's drink (we had ordered it without) so he took it back and got her a drink without ice. Our hummus arrived, tasty, the wheat pitas were hot to slather on the hummus. Then our mains arrived. My hubs had the half Caesar salad with chicken and I had the roasted veggie salad half. Both are enormous, enough to feed two people rather easily. Our son had the mac and cheese which he loves. After a couple of minutes the California club pizza arrived ... except my Mom had ordered the California veggie pizza (which used to be the eggplant pizza). The waiter apologized profusely and took it back. He told us it would take about ten minutes to make the new pizza. After about a minute, another wait staff came by and asked if we wanted the pizza on honey whole wheat which we said yes. My Mom and I ate my roasted veggie salad (which was super tasty) and about five minutes into our wait, the manager walked over to apologize profusely about the mix up. We told him it wasn't a problem and that we were fine. A couple of minutes later, the waiter returned to apologize again and tell us the pizza would be done within a few minutes. Sure enough, about five minutes later the pizza arrived. The manager returned again to let us know that our pizza would be comp'ed for the mix up and made sure our bill reflected it. He apologized again to us and yet again as we left. I have to admit, this was really refreshing. Independent restaurants have a hard enough time admitting messing up but to have a chain restaurant manager do it was just shocking. It made us fans of the CPK even more.

It's a chain so nothing too much to say about the food- we've gone before and enjoyed and will go again (love the thai chicken pizza and the pear & gorgonzola pizza) which is why I gave it 4 stars. Our last experience is why I'm writing the review- I wish I could remember our servers name because I would list it here to avoid due to his poor service. He was very short with us and acted like he wanted to rush us. He took our order and we didn't see him for a while but we noticed other tables getting bread and a dip. We asked another server if that was complimentary and he said yes, and offered to bring us some. Why didn't our server offer? No idea- I guess he didn't want the extra work. The wait was a little long and with three hungry people, we asked him for more bread. (and assumed he would see that we had finished the dip as well and would bring more of that as well but no, he takes the plate and dip dish, but just brings back 3 pieces of bread and did not refill the dip... what a joke. got the food and it was great- but had to keep flagging him down for soda refills rather than him coming to check in on us like normal service. They also had a promotion going on where you get a coupon to bring back that the manager has to open to see what kind of discount or winnings you get. Didn't get that either, had to ask another server again. As I'm writing this I'm kicking myself for leaving him a tip- less than what I normally give but he really didn't deserve one. If I remember his name I will post it so maybe he'll change his ways.

I've been coming to this location ever since I was little. Not my favorite pizza place but it still is one of my go-tos. The prices are kinda high and the wait can suck too...so sometimes sitting at the counter isn't so bad, though the service lacks a little. Love: *Appetizers: Avocado Club Egg Rolls, Tuscan Hummus, Sesame Ginger Chicken Dumplings. OMG the Avocado Club Egg Rolls are a must if you love avocado, bacon, & fatty fried goodness! *Salad: Original BBQ Chicken minus yucky beans. I know they're trying to trick you into thinking you're eating healthy by getting this, but it has ranch dressing...oh well you're being a semi good girl/boy by ordering this...a mix of good & bad never hurt anyone! *Pizza: Roasted Garlic Chicken, Pepperoni, Mushroom, & Sausage, & the Tostada (minus beans!). Get the Roasted Garlic Pizza on a date that you already know is going bad..he won't kiss you at the end of the night since you're breath will be so garlicky! *Drinks: The lemonades--strawberry & peach..yum! I also like how CPK introduces new menu items quite frequently. Last night, I ordered one of the "Original BBQ Chicken Pizza reinventions." I got it with bacon & yes bacon makes everything taste better! The waitress we had last night was sweet & attentive; probably the best service that I've had there to date. I've noticed in the past 6 months or so, the managers would help out and also check on patrons, this is a nice touch, especially with the recession still in effect.

CPK is CPK. The pizza menu is creative, if you want a pepperoni pizza, its on the menu, but many of the CPK exclusives are quite delicious and not available at most pizzerias. The menu was recently (sometime in the last 2 months) revamped. Many of the tried and true favorites are still there. I was not familiar enough with the old menu to know what all changed. I enjoyed the new red wine flight. A white wine version is also on the menu. Service is always decent at this CPK. I have never been disappointed by the service, nor have I been wowed either. The Belgian Chocolate Soufflé Cake is amazing.

I've eaten at several different CPKs, and they are very consistent. This last time, my friend and I shared an appetizer and a 10 inch pizza. It was very satisfying. We started with the deep fried artichoke hearts coated in a panko crust.. Great crust and temperature hot. If you like thin crusted pizzas, the Sicilian thin crust pizza is the one to order. It's got three different types of meats including sausage, ham, and salami. It's 10 inches wide, and can serve 2 people.

Kind of surprised that I've not reviewed this place as of yet. The pizza and pastas here are decent. Every once in a while when I get that craving for pizza this is a decent place (well, any CPK for that matter) to go to. I've mostly stuck with the pastas and I've got to say the portobello mushroom with tomato sauce and basil is delicious. The wine selection is decent but the coffee could stand to undergo some improvement.

CPK has always just been the "no where to eat at the mall so let's go there" type of restaurant for me and my friends, so I never had high expectations even though they're generally pretty good. I was pretty blown away by the service here though. I came on the day after Christmas so it was pretty packed as well. The hostess at the front was really nice and was always smiling even though there were so many people waiting outside asking her how much longer they needed to wait. Our server was a nice lady who gave us refills multiple times. There was this gentleman - and he wasn't even our server that looked busy going in and coming out of the kitchen waiting tables - he was very nice and asked us if we wanted more bread every time he passed by. He also proactively told us that he was willing to get us more lettuce (for the lettuce wrap appetizers) if we needed more. I was quite amazed by the service here.

Ordered "The Works" pizza today. It was okay, but I'm not sure if I'm imagining things but the last few times I went to a CPK (both here and Palo Alto-Stanford Shopping Center), I felt the portions were very "measured i.e. skimpier" than before. I'm hoping CPK can get a better rating from me in the future. I'd not big on "mediocre pizza, salads, etc", but am willing to come in again. In this economy, and with our sales tax rate going up, it's nice if a restaurant gives you a little more than you expected. On the up side, the staff is always friendly, smiling and courteous.

I visited CPK with my girlfriend. I ordered a margherita which I found very tasty but rather chevy. The dough was somewhat compact so after I ate half of the pizza my jaw was really starting to get tired (I don't wear a denture, trust me). For dessert I ordered a tiramisù which I found very tasty as well. The layers of lady fingers with rhum were just like they make them in Italy. The only problem was the thickness of the top layer which abundant in mascarpone (6-8mm ... 2mm are more than enough) but lacked a good dose of powdered cocoa (cocoa was barely sprinkled). The tiramisù was good but it was rather heavy. A portion easily feeds two people. The place is somewhat loud and the seats in the booths are way too low, so low my elbows were at the same height of my shoulders ... not very comfortable. Manny, our server, was excellent and humorous.

I love the veg pizzas here. They are always perfect and yum and there is a lot of attention takent o maintian consistency. However, I think it's slightly on higher prie range and the wait can get tesdious during weekends even if you order to-go. The service is pathetic. Many of them forget what they have been told and usual have a blank apologetic expression which makes you wanna go 'dang'/duh!'

I really don't get what all the fuss is about the pizza here. I came here the other day with a friend because she was really craving pizza and suggested this place. Having heard all these rave reviews in the past concerning the pizza here, and the fact that they have the word "Pizza" in their name, I figured "Why Not?". Came in on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was pretty deserted. They were able to seat us right away and a very friendly waiter came to take our orders almost immediately. Neither of us being particular hungry at the time, we opted to share a pizza and ordered the Meat Cravers, consisting of Italian sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, Capicola ham, julienne salami and Mozzarella cheese. The wait for the food was fairly short and before we knew it, we had a freshly baked pizza served before us. Being efficient, our waiter immediately deduced that we were going to be sharing the pizza and that would we probably need some plates. So before we even needed to ask, he immediately stated that he would also return shortly with some extra places. +1 for the waiter! Throughout the meal, our waiter made sure to check in with us periodically to see how we were doing and if we needed anything else. While definitely impressed with the service, the food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. Visually, the pizza looked extremely greasy. A hunch further confirmed after taking the first bite. It was like eating grease and not pizza. The problem was only further compounded by the fact that the "Meat Cravers" pizza barely had any meat on it at all! Aside from a few large pepperonis, everything else was rather lacking. I honestly think I find more meat on my Costco pizza than this! At the end of the meal, in order to wash down the less than appetizing pizza, we decided to share a Apple Crisp. This was definitely the better of the two items that we ordered. The baked apples at the bottom of the dessert was served warm. And when combined with the cold vanilla ice cream on top, it was a melt in your mouth slice of heaven. While I would definitely give this place a thumbs up for the service, I could not in good conscience recommend this place to anyone looking for a good slice of pizza. Before we left however, the waiter did give us a "mystery" card (basically a coupon) for our return trip in which we could potentially win $100K. But at least get 10% off our next meal. As a disclaimer, he stated that the card would be null and void if we opened it prior to our next visit. Having no desire to ingest anymore nasty pizza in the near future, I opened mine up. Let's just say I didn't win 100K.......

It's a great alternative for eating with friends instead of the food court. I say service is a hit or miss. The food is pretty good. It seems just like any other pizza joint, but with the unique pizzas. I always lean towards getting their avocado egg rolls. If you like avocado, bacon, chicken, and cheese all covered in ranch or spicy ranch dressing...this is so the egg roll for you. I just love how they taste. All of the other chain restaurants do no make it like California Pizza Kitchen does. I don't know what it is, but I'm always excited to get that when I come here.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of CPK food.. This is based on the take-out. I called in at 4pm trying to get a combo platter for a meeting in our office at 5pm. the girl i spoke to over the phone was very nice and did her best to accomodate the last minute call. SO I order, and im ready to give her the CC# and she says that she is unable to take payment over the phone?!? Seriously? SO she goes and gets her "manager" to see if he can override the transaction. he (his name is Ivan) gets on the phone about 5mins later and has me explain the situation, then tells me he needs to ask his manager? (ok I thought I was already talking to him) he gets back on the phone and tells me that they cant do it, but the other option is to go online and place the order. WOW AFTER ALL THAT?!? SO I go online place the fricken order, and they're late by 25mins. the pizzas were COLD! WTF?!? AND they didnt add any plates or utencils?!? ITS AN EFFING TAKE OUT ORDER DONT YOU THINK I NEED THAT SHIT?

My husband and I dine out quite often. We go to CPK all the time. We have never had a bad experience. The food is good, nothing fancy but you can always depend on the chef to create dependable, good dishes. The last time we were there, I ordered a salad that was not what I expected. Our waiter took it back without questions asked. Immediately right after I returned the dish, the manager, Serafina, came to our table to see if she could bring a replacement. That's what I call good customer service! They do care about their customers. They have been at this location for many years and I hope they will stay for many more years to come.

Stopped in for a little lunch with my girl. I had the Waldorf salad no apples, excellent, my girl had a mushroom pizza very good. We sat at the end of the bar and were waited on by the lovely Amanda. While there, there was a man and woman ordering at the registrar, this took about 25 minutes. I only noticed because this took a long time to order food to go. After overhearing slightly something about a avocado the classy woman turned to me and said "you want to join our conversation or do you just want to stay with you girl friend". ..homophobes. Yes we are lesbian. So, this is where I'm going, the staff was outstanding, immediately Michael (the poor cashier who had to listen to the couples crap) came over and apologized. I told him, know worries Fausto and Amanda were apologizing as well. They comped us a dessert. Just very professional and on target. We will be returning. Thank you,

The service here is really going down hill. We just had a waiter who screwed up another table's order and forgot to enter our order. This is the worst experience we've had so far. Never seem to be able to catch the waiter and had to help ourselves for things we need. Thumb down.

I guess I should've gotten a salad, but it is a pizza place after all. I got the White Pizza with bacon, the boyfriend ordered The Works, both thin crust. Not good. The toppings were scarce and the cheese non-existent. I almost never send food back and I didn't know about the Menu Guarantee that another review mentioned, if I'd known I might have complained. We probably won't go back, Rainbow Pizza, North Beach or Zorbas are much much better for the $.

Came here with the fam for dinner. Spinach and artichoke dip was OK (blue corn tortilla chips seemed kind of stale). Field greens with gorgonzola salad was satisfying (best part of the meal). The works pizza (pepperoni, mushroom, sausage , onions, and peppers) was lackluster... Service was a bit non-existant. Had a better experience in the downtown SF location. Would probably not choose to come back to this location again if I could help it...

Definitely a hit or miss on service but the food is good. So it's always busy and the service shows it. There have been times were we have sat there for at least 10 minutes before someone has gotten to our table to help us and then thru out the service we hardly see our server or when they do finally come around they seem a bit confused and overwhelmed. We'll ask for something but either we don't get it or it comes out a little late. Don't get me wrong, it's not always that bad. There are the few rare occasions we get great service. Now the food has always been consistent, it never changes. Meaning I know if I order something it's going to taste the same as the last 5 times I ordered it, no changes.

I remember going to my first one 25 years ago while living in the San Fernando Valley. I used to go to the one in Woodland Hills. Gourmet pizza for the masses, didn't have to go to Spago's. Different pizza for different folks. If you like thick and hearty pizza's, this place isn't for you. The crusts are thin and chewy. Wide variety in the menu offerings. Along with pizzas, there's appetizers, salads, pasta, and other main dishes. They also have kid's menu, which is pretty decent as well. Good location if the weather is hot and need to hang out in the mall to cool off. Its located along the exterior of Hillsdale, and well lit. Sometimes the wait is long, so they'll give you a beeper. I found the pizza to be satisfactory, and consistent in quality with the other locations. Among the large chain pizza joints like Round Table and Pizza Hut, CPK is a good alternative. If I'm in the mood for thin pizza and chi-chi toppings, I'll come here.

I suspect everyone has been to a California Pizza Kitchen by now, and the menus are the same at all the CPKs. Creative pizzas such as Thai Chicken, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Santa Fe (my favorites) but also zesty and spicy appetizers like Tortilla Spring Rolls, Dynamite Shrimp, Avocado Club Egg Rolls. The tortilla soup is always good as well. The Hillsdale CPK is always crowded on weekend with long waits, and if there are only two of you just go to the bar its the same menu and no waiting 30 minutes. Sure, you sit side by side instead of across from eachother, but other than that it works and saves lots of time.

There is a considerable market for sit down pizzerias. You have establishments like California Pizza Kitchen, Amici's East Coast Pizzeria, and Red Brick Pizza. However, California Pizza Kitchen separates its self from these other restaurants by providing an amazing collection of tasty and scrumptious non-pizza entrees. California Pizza Kitchen is located inside the comfortable Hillsdale Shopping Center which provides both pros and cons... Pro: Parking is abundant and only a tiny walks away Con: Just like any mall it is engulfed with Teenyboppers and rambunctious pre-adolescent boys. This kind of kills any romantic overtures (Which should be killed if you are taking your Tenderoni to CPK). Con/Pro: If you go during dinner time there usually is a wait, BUT you are in the mall you can walk around. You can visit great stores like ANA Furniture and Mid-Peninsula Housing Leasing Center! Now let me speak on the food itself. Anybody familiar with sit down pizzerias knows what they are in for, great tasting pizza, with fun size proportions. California Pizza Kitchen offers a vast array of pizzas from their classic BBQ Chicken Pizza to an interesting Thai Chicken Pizza. When I eat pizza here I usually go with their BBQ Chicken Pizza or Meat Lovers (No Homo), which is amazing but when I pay 12+ dollars for a pizza I expect to be full...however that never happens. This has led me to try their other options, which at one point I thought was blasphemous, oh how I was wrong. 3 words that have changed my Pizzeria experience...Chicken Tequila Fettuccine! Downright amazing, the sauce, the chicken, the lime, the EVERYTHING. Other entrees like the Jambalaya, Kung Pao Spaghetti, and their endless salads are also great meals they offer. California Pizza Kitchen in many ways is your run of the mill sit down pizzeria; great pizza, small proportions, expensive pricing. Where it separates itself is that little surprise known as the Chicken Tequila Fettuccine. I compare it to going to a XD movie, you pay a little more for your ticket but you wonder why? Then out of nowhere a bowl of Chicken Tequila Fettuccine pops up and you're like "Ah I guess it is worth it."

This place is hit or miss. The missing is what brings them down two stars, but the hitting really makes it 5! Unfortunately. I have been here quite a few times because of its location--I shop at the hillsdale mall (not anymore since learning I could take a quite trip on Bart to Powell), and usually always end up here. My best friend/brother Kevin and I have our YEARLY dinner here (YOU ASSHOLE), and everytime we order the same thing; appetizer, hawaiian pizza, and a dessert (to appeal the fatties in us). I never leave unhappy, always full and usually with a stomache. Actually--always with a stomache (lactose intolerance doesn't usually fare well when pizza is on the menu). My latest time there I tried a different pizza--one with japanese eggplant, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. Oh JEEZ, this was awesome. I'm surprised I was able to chew because the goodness numbed my mouth so much, I thought my jaw was hanging and swallowing what I could upon orfice entry (wow, that sentence was incredibly sexual...no dirty thoughts!). Top it off with a beer and I'm pretty much set. Then I go home and writhe around in pain, clutching my stomach and asking myself "Well, was it worth it?" For that pizza? Yes. For everything else? Maybe. For the service? Your lucky the pizza was so damn good.

After a tough day of shopping it's nice to sit at the bar, chat with the bartenders, have a great glass of wine and taste the new items on the menu. Okay, so I'm not a fan of the fried artichokes, but pretty much everything else on their small plates menu is awesome. My favorite is the Mediterranean plate. Yummy hummus! The Asian Spring Rolls from the regular menu is my second favorite appie. The pizzas are too tiny to share, but for a personal pie they're just right. So grab your shopping bag and head to Macy's and after you satisfy that shopping bug, head over to CPK for a beverage and chow.

When: late afternoon on Black Friday Who: three amigas Why: late afternoon munches What: One full size moroccan chicken salad, one half size moroccan chicken salad, one soup, one artichoke dip with tortilla chips Three stars for convenience, friendly service, and decent salads. We arrived at the front desk, in the midst of a very involved discussion of boy drama, "YOU ARE GIVING HIM AN EXCUSE!" hanging in the air like one of the cartoon bubbles. The hostess smiled sympathetically and immediately found us a cozy table for three. In a true GF get-together fashion, we combined the four essentials of renewal and rejuvenation: shopping, eats, drinks and desserts. CPK offered us eats and drinks in this case, with a friendly smile and efficiency and merrily sent us on our way.

I don't eat at this chain too often - the food is pretty good don't get me wrong, but I'm hardly at the mall - I just HAD to yelp about one of the greatest servers of all time - JANELLE. We were happily enjoying our pizzas and lettuce wraps when in walks the armpit crew, who got seated in the booth right behind us. I kid you not - I was biting into my pizza when I caught a whiff of this awful stench and thought it was the cheese on my pizza so I didn't say a thing! Then my fiance uttered the word "stink" in tagalog, and his mom across the table started busting out laughing. I'm sorry but it was just downright UNBEARABLE. We all stopped eating, and wanted to get up and leave - it was THAT BAD. Our waitress heroine walked by to check on us, and we didn't know what to say. We were all covering our noses (and trying to be discreet about it) and just kept mumbling "ummm......the food is GREAT... very yummy... but.... well... uhh.... ". We all eventually fell silent, so I just stared at her with the most pitiful puppy dog look, and she said quietly "You guys wanna move?" We all sighed YES PLEASE, and she more loudly said, "oh i'm SOOO sorry about the table" turned around and told another waiter "oh the table is broken, it's all wobbly, could you help me move them?" I would have tipped her even more if I had paid the bill that night - she definitely earned it. If not for the nasal relief, she definitely earned it for the comic relief. Thanks for one of the funniest dinner stories I'll ever get to tell, Janelle!!! You ROCK!!!!

I ended up at the emergency after eating at your place, me and my son. I wonder whatever happened? unless your server did something to my food after I complained about him for forgetting we were there to take the orders, also the manager wanted to apologize and send me some credit or something, but I never received anything. I'll never eat at your place again, what happened to me was discusting.
